Chronicle

Saul

Vice Admiral
Admiral
Couldn't find a thread on this but I think this is a film lots of people will be watching soon.

I thought it's really entertaining and had lots of funny moments. A bit of a spider-man/Akira/cloverfield superhero movie.
The action is very good and reminded me of Dragon ball Z. I thought how the main characters explored their powers was very funny at the beginning and pretty realistic if teenagers were to get super hero powers.

This movie looks stupid. If you enjoyed it...I might consider seeing it...but it looks like a rip on alot of stuff...and I prefer the originals. ;)

[edit] I am not needlessly bashing it...but based on the previews...it just looks awful.

I thought so too. I thought "this looks sh*t, not wasting my money on that!". Then I heard some reviews from some critics whose opinion I respect and decided to see what the fuss was about.

I was totally wrong with my first impression. The preview is quite poor but the actual movie is very entertaining. Worth the dosh in my view.

Well the topic is interesting but the previews don't seem to put it in the best light...I was thinking of doing this thread...but said meh...it is hopeful that it has gotten good reviews. :)

I think word of mouth will make it more popular. The previews were pretty useless, I didn't even pay attention to them myself. I think it's good to go into this film not knowing too much. Not in terms of spoilers but just entertainment. If anyone even remotely enjoyed the likes of 'Cloverfield' I think they will like this.

It's actually the best-reviewed movie of the year so far (according to RT). I'm really looking forward to it now, despite not being particularly impressed with the trailers.

I hope it's as good as some of my favourite found footage movies (Blair Witch, Cloverfield, [rec]).

I think it is the guy who is abusing his abilities that puts me off in the previews...but since the reviews are good...I might try to see it...like I said I am interested in the topic the movie explores. :)

From the brief trailers I've seen, this movie looks like what would happen if modern-day teenagers discovered they could use the Force and then got into a Light Side vs Dark Side fight. Accurate?

Mild spoilers ahead... The bulk of the movie involves three teens playing around with their growing telekinetic powers. One of them lives with a dying mother and an abusive father, and this created some anger and power issues that didn't go so well with his newfound powers.

I liked this one quite a bit, too. It has some flaws, but it also has a lot of cool stuff going on. It sidesteps a couple of the problems I usually have with these 'found-footage' camcorder type movies (even if doing so introduces its own set of new problems). The crowd I saw it with was into it, as well.

Substitute "father" for "Toydarian owner", and I'm tempted to ask if his name is Anakin? :D

Seriously though, it sounds like a movie I'll catch at some point, though not in theatres (I hardly ever go to the cinema any more).

Wow...

It doesn't look real at all...it looks like a Hollywood movie...the ship sailed after Blair Witch. :p

I agree somewhat but only on the Internet marketing side for buzz prerelease.
the genre dates back at least as far as 1980's Cannibal Holocaust, it was popularized after the release of such films as The Blair Witch Project (1999), Paranormal Activity (2007)
and Man Bites Dog (1992)
Found footage (genre)

EW had a little article last week:

Is 'Chronicle' the future of the found footage genre?

"Found footage" is as ridiculous as "reality TV" I really don't care for this "genre" but whatevs...if it is a good movie...then so be it...but it is hardly anything new as you posted examples...therefor IMO not any more spectacular than any other film genres.

I just got back from it. Awesome movie and one that does the concept right. Far better than the incredibly overrated Blair Witch Project.

The CGI is admittedly dodgy at times (when they're levitating objects) but for a $12 million movie, the FX is pretty damn good.

I saw this and Woman in Black yesterday. Loved Chronicle, not so hot on WiB. It ended up being so much better than the trailers, and I'm hoping for a sequel. Everything else I want to say is spoiler territory, so I'll just leave it with ... two thumbs up.

Chronicle was the #1 film at the box office this weekend, with an estimated haul of $22 million. Considering its reported $12 million budget, a cast of mostly unknowns, and the fact that it debuted over Superbowl weekend, that's not too shabby.

I haven't seen the film yet, but I hope to get around to it by next weekend. I was on the fence about this one, but the strong reviews have encouraged me.

It pretty much has a found footage style minus the ultra realistic shaky cam :p

Parts of the movie look like something out of Akira.

and also Saul takes a Shower. (2010)
What? They didn't find that one yet? I keep leaving it around car parks.
