Chrome, Firefox crashing repeatedly

doubleohfive

...sometimes all I have to do is open the damn things and they crash. Is there a fix for this?

Really, it's mostly Chrome that is giving me the trouble, and it's supremely irritating. There seems to be a lot online in the way of discussion about this problem, but I'm having trouble tracking down any kind of (recent) fix that I can implement.

Is anyone else having this problem, and if so have you found a way to fix it? I only started using Chrome on this desktop recently, and until maybe yesterday or the day before, had not been experiencing any problems. Tonight it's just gone crazy, and it's getting really annoying.

Is it possible that your computer is the problem? I know that my laptop and my family's desktop had similar problems with Firefox, and until we defragged the registry I had to just wait and restart it.

Hmm. I de-fragged this computer the other day, so I don't think that would be the issue. The irony here is that when Chrome is the ONLY program running, it seems to work just fine. But if I even dare go in to something simple like Calculator or some such, it's crash city.

That's odd...obviously, otherwise you wouldn't have mentioned it. *smacks head*

When did you download Chrome? Are you using a Mac or PC?

I don't know if you've tried this yet, but:

From the desktop right click on "My Computer": go to properties
In the window that appears click the advanced tab
Under performance, click settings
Click Data Execution Prevention Tab at top
If Google Chrome is in the exception box in the middle un-check it

Also, apparently having "Enable Extensions" active also causes problems.

My Firefox has been stalling over and over for a week or two now. I have to click reload page about ten times before it loads. I think I need to download the new version? I'm also on dial-up so that doesn't help. It's driving me insane!

Chrome hasn't been crashing for me, but I've had the weird problem of checkboxes not appearing, I can click where they would be, and it selects the line (yahoo mail) but no visible checkbox. Hm.

Spyware often attacks browsers (especially IE)... You should give your system a full spyware and virus scan -- if for no other reason than to rule that out.

I tried Chrome but I didn't like it. Firefox had become an unstable pig under my old XP laptop but it runs fine under my new (used) desktop running Windows 7.
