Christopher Meloni Exits Law & Order: SVU

Starbreaker

Fleet Admiral

This will be the end of the show. I'm pretty sure most of the viewers watch for the Meloni/Hargitay interaction now.

I think we'll be in a Law & Orderless world by 2013.

I think with Meloni leaving and Hargitay relegated to a lesser role next season, it will be interesting to see if the show can stand on it's own two legs. I never watched the show for them anyways.

I can see Ice-T being paired up with the rumored Jennifer Love Hewitt, which I am really interested to see. I love Richard Belzer as Munch, but if they aren't going to use him, why bother having him there? Same pretty much goes for Tamara Tunie as Warner: she gets star billing for ten seconds of screen time? I'd be sad to see Dann Florek go.

SVU needs to focus on the writing and distance themselves from this angsty Stabler/Benson relationship they've had going on for so long. It did the show no favors.

Time to steal a joke from one of the comments to that article:

"Looks like this show is..."

(puts on sunglasses)

"un-Stabler."

YEEEEEAAAAHHHHH!!!!

I'm not really surprised. A shoot out in the squadroom is always the way to make someone depart, and I find it ironic that after all the ways SVU has dropped its Homicide Life of the Street connections, it uses the exact same finale trick to shake up its players.

They really need to retire this one nicely. I miss Munch, and watching HLOTS at 5 am on Centric again makes me realize how consistently superior it was.

Fingers crossed for Elias Koteas to show up as a replacement, playing Elliot's never before mentioned cop brother Rob.

Its Casey Jones threatening perps folks, you know it would be fun.

Which is sort of amazing... the first one came on, in what... (scurries over to Wiki) 1990!! Holy CRAP! 23 years of Law and Order... there are PEOPLE who were BORN that can now VOTE and DRINK when the mothership started...

As if I didn't already have enough reasons to drop cable (the cancellation of L&O:LA and CI), I now have one more.

They should bring back the HLOTS connections. What is Kyle Secor doing these days?

Pretty sure his character would still be in prison...

I'm not surprised nor am I disappointed (although I am surprised Hargitay renewed her contract considering she and Meloni both said they were a package deal). I gave up on the show a couple of years ago like I have with all of the shows except Law & Order: UK. I'll be interested in seeing what they do with the show now but I doubt it'll get better.

Hrm. Alright. Let's just pretend I said "Reed Diamond" or "Clark Johnson" instead (although it's pretty clear that in a perfect world, I would have said "Andre Braugher")

Reed Diamond is in the promos for the new lawyer show on TNT.

Clark Johnson directs more than he acts these days, though he does cameo...for S.W.A.T. he was credited as another character's "handsome partner."

And Andre Braugher is always worth watchin', even when he's stuck in shit like Men of a Certain Age, but HLotS established that Frank was retired.

The article seems to imply that Hargitay had already signed for the 13th season before talks with Meloni fell down.

I hope that this changes. Get him back for the remaining full time Mariska episodes and then bring some conclusion to their partnership.
