Christopher Eccleston finally speaks about why he left Doctor Who

I think the fact he often uses it as an anecdote speaks volumes about the man. I also don't appreciate being accused of lying.

Wow your shields snap on faster than the enterprise's :guffaw:

Wasn't accusing you of anything, I just asked for clarification because people do often just repeat information that isn't neccesarily true, even though they might beleive it is.

Of course if you don't mention the specifics it's easier to imply Barrowman's just a sexual deviant right ;)

I was refering to Bacl, not you.

Oh good, another of your backward attempts to imply I'm a homophobe. You just can't help yourself, can you? Within just the past fortnight, you've accused me without evidence of being a racist, a homophobe, and hating the disabled. Have I ever made a personal attack against you?

So he gets asked what the most embarrassing thing to happen to him, so bloody what. Maybe he feels that they are and thus answers accordingly.
I'm fairly sure he's mentioned it more than once. He seems to think it's funny.

I'm not disputing that fact. I am just stating that he has no doubt been asked the same mundane question by two bit journalists and has answered with what he feels is the most embarrassing thing to happen and you know what, it is a tad amusing if not a bit disturbing.

Actually hetrosexual people do the whole shitting on each other thing too, so that wasn't any attempt to call you a homophobe, you were clearly trying to diss Barrowman with the line though by leaving out the specifics.

Sheesh are you the kind of person who starts fights in pubs because people 'look at you kinda funny?'

FFS: Eccleston made his decision on whether to stay or not halfway through the season shoot, before John Barrowman arrived on set. Anything which influenced his stay/no-stay decision happened during the shooting of his first half dozen episodes.
One clarification.

Eccleston didn't make his final decision until the eleventh hour -- shortly before "Rose" aired and as the production was gearing up for the second season. The man was genuinely torn about returning; he liked being the Doctor, he didn't like the behind-the-scenes crap he had to deal with.

What finally forced him to decide that no, he wasn't going to return, was that he learned the BBC had put out feelers to Tennant about taking up the role midway through the second season. Eccleston felt he wasn't wanted, so he decided to leave. In the BBC's defense, they didn't know what Eccleston was planning on doing and they were only protecting their investment in the series by lining up another actor.

Part of the reason for the glowy regeneration effect was that it allowed the production team to mask Eccleston in the shot. The regeneration scene is actually all Tennant; they were able to match the original ending of "Parting of the Ways" to Tennant wearing a skullcap.
Wait, what? Where did you get this from, and how on Earth could the regeneration be a last minute change? I know two endings were filmed, but the Doctor has a whole big speech about how he is going to transform into a new person!

Barrowman is well known as a homosexual, and it's clear to me that you were implying that I was searching for a reason to suggest that because he's a homosexual he's a deviant who likes shitting on people. My feelings about the man aren't do to with his being gay, but because of how he seems as a person.

So, yes, the main events that soured Eccleston on working with the crew of Doctor Who happened early in the production, but there was still a chance he could return -- until the BBC scuppered that.

That fits with what I'd heard: because Eccleston was uncertian about season two(/28), they started checking out a sucessor, and that led to a put-up or get-out.

Oh stop being a jackass. You know he was just joking with you, and not at all about the sexual bit. Your extreme defensive nature is noted, however. Meanwhile, stop being such an overly-sensitive drama queen. No one cares if your feelings are hurt. Man-up or leave.

And by the way, it's obvious to anyone barely conscious what you were "suggesting" with your Barrowman anecdote. Leave it at Gallifrey Hate. There's a reason some of us don't go there...

Leaving aside the first paragraph of personal attack, what exactly do you think I was suggesting with the Barrowman story?

That's not what I was getting at, but I object to the suggestion (if it was there) that I might imply he does this merely because he's a homosexual. I've been wrongly accused here numerous times of biggotry, and I won't let another such accusation go without comment and denial.

Well you've commented it and denied it. Now grow up and drop it.

"Grow up"? That's a particularly poor attempt at patronising condescension, considering that would clearly have been my last mention if no one else brought it up. I know you get a particular joy from trying to bait me, but at least disguise it within a genuine point.

Aaaand the line has been crossed. Sorry, but I've got to hand out an infraction for flaming on this. Comments to PM, etc.

I'm not finished, though.

Really, dude? Really? You're the one who brought Barrowman up out of nowhere and then started talking about him shitting on people. It had no germane relevance to the discussion, and then you suddenly did a 180-degree turn and started playing the victim.

We see a lot of this behavior from you, but this ... no. You're the one who started baiting. You do it again, it's a trolling infraction, because I am sick of the threadshitting around here.
