Christmas Special Teaser

The Doctor has to pick her up with a new haircut (read new gen) and bring her out and then give her the modified version of 10's sonic. That should be the last River episode (for a while at least. He is a time traveller). Then the Doctor knows her next stop is The Library where she will die/be stored.

^^^ Unfortunately, I suspect that the most we'll see of that trip was in the Night and the Doctor clips (as opposed to Night of the Doctor) on the season 6 DVD box set. I'm pretty sure that was his way of washing his hands of that bit of continuity without having to spend more than five minutes on it.

.

It's been said that the Xmas special will tie up all the loose ends of Smith's run, which really it would logically have to do since this is the end of Smith's run.

Whether it can make a coherent story out of all the loose ends from all three seasons I would like to believe, but I'm not going to bank on it.

I wonder how this will be festive. Or will it be an unremitting downer?

So in the last year we've had:

Name of the Doctor
Night of the Doctor
Day of the Doctor
Time of the Doctor - New title for the Christmas special, as I just read on comingsoon.net

I really hope there is a Bad Wolf thing to all this and these titles mean more than just titles. Either that or the Doctor Who writers are lacking in title creativity. Still, if this is wrapping up Smith's run, it might also be wrapping up all the arcs in this era of the Doctor so these titles could be leading to something big.

River's ending was perfect in "The Name of the Doctor." I loved the character, but I'm happy with her never returning.

I have no problem with River making brief appearances in episodes (as in Name of the Doctor). It's just when she tags along for the entire story that she starts to wear out her welcome a bit, I think.

Sadly, I suspect it's the latter. DW has never been overly creative with titles. Dozens are in the X of the Y format or The X of Y, and they even made a joke on the afterparty show about how many titles have "Death" or "Evil" or "Planet" in them. To the extent that I suspect it's now done deliberately in the name of tradition.

Ugh, I really hope the new-style Cybermen from Nightmare in Silver aren't the main villain in the Christmas Special. I found them hugely disappointing in that episode, and would hate for them to end up being the ultimate cause of Eleven's death.

Yeah, that would be lame. I'm pretty much over the Cybermen as bad guys. I enjoyed their brief appearance at the beginning of "A Good Man Goes to War," but I'd be cool with them taking a nice long break.

Let's wrap up the Silence story. They're bad enough to be the villains without anyone else.

From what we now of the story and other hints
it will be ALL of them, pretty much every foe the Doctor ever had, cornering him and attacking without giving him a break possibly for a very long period of time, which finally wears him out in the end

"Well, guys, we tried the Pandorica, and he managed to escape that. Why don't we just kill him this time?"

I suspect there is some meaning behind the titles

i.e "Night of the Doctor", we generally associated Night with darkness or an ending. So could it refer to the Doctor forgoing his title when he regenerates into the War Doctor?

for "The Day of the Doctor" is him reclaiming that title

as for "The Time of the Doctor" if rumours regarding the regeneration limit are true it might have something to do with that.

Silent Night is a cool title for a regular Christmas special, but for Eleven's final episode it strikes me as being a bit too cute. Time of the Doctor may not be the greatest title ever, but it still feels a lot more epic to me.

Part of me wants the Christmas special to NOT be a downer, but then again, Moffat caught hell for "The Doctor, The Widow, and The Wardrobe" didn't he? So I guess that's why we're getting two downers in a row.

Matt Smith's regeneration story should be epic, but I'm not sure how I feel about him being under attack the whole time. Will that be hard to watch, as the Doctor ages and gets weaker? I guess I'll have to wait and see.

Am I the only one who doesn't like that title? Should've been Silent Night.
No you're not. I don't like it either. It's silly and a play for symmetry. Does this mean that Capaldi's first episode will be Dawn of the Doctor or something hokey like that? I wish Moffat would stop already.
