Christmas Special Teaser

Is that Rivers voice that says "Trenzalore"? Be very surprised if she's not in it.

I don't think it sounds like Alex Kingston, but it is very brief, so I am not sure. I hope it's not. The last time was a good ending for the character.

Bringing her back would fully put her in the 'Rose Circle' for me, contempt made by the show runner just not being willing to let the character go. Doomsday was a great ending for Rose, after that each appearance and reference made Rose more of a nuisance than anything else. River is quickly heading there for me.

River got there quicker than Rose did. Oy.

Just to be contrary, I hope it is her. ;)

Somehow Eleven stumbles his way onto Trenzalore, without recognizing it, without meaning to go there, and finds himself forced to fight the battle that "kills" him. I like that Moffat plans ahead, seeding references to future events in his stories, and yet it lately gives the stories the feel of an immutable timeline, where fate can't be avoided, only embraced (for good or ill). I've never pegged DW as a time travel series that used immutable timelines in its stories. Am I wrong?

The Doctor's day has come and gone,
Close to the end we now have drawn.
Silence falls forevermore
When the Eleventh returns to Trenzalore.

Sounded like Alex Kingston to me and I couldn't be more delighted. I'm looking forward to seeing her play off of Peter Capaldi.

It's been said that the Xmas special will tie up all the loose ends of Smith's run, which really it would logically have to do since this is the end of Smith's run.

Whether it can make a coherent story out of all the loose ends from all three seasons I would like to believe, but I'm not going to bank on it.

.

Another River fan here (guess that's why I suggested it). I have no problem seeing her one more time, but agree it would be good to move on when we get a new Doctor.

I liked the character up till the death of the Doctor business. The whole business with her knowing so much about the Doctor, the Tardis, and everything was making her too Mary Sue, just too much like a fanfiction character who can do everything the best-est and most-est. Add Amy and Rory being her parents and the Doctor's universe was getting smaller and smaller. Everything that made the character so interesting lay in her mystery, Moffat stripped that away leaving an uninteresting plot monkey behind.

I like River, but I can really only see one more appearance for her. It would make sense for her to at least meet Peter Capaldi, as she's commented about the Doctor's different faces at some point in the past. I'm sure she mentioned seeing an older face. And yes this is all somewhat vague. I'm rubbish with details. :D

Perhaps she could appear at Christmas to help Matt Smith finish up his arc, and then meet Capaldi? Too convoluted? Probably.

I absolutely do not want to see River Song again. Her final scene with the Doctor in The Name of the Doctor is perfectly satisfactory coda for her character, and it should stay that way.

I think it´s actually very clear from the scene that we will see her one more time...why else would she say "Spoilers!"?
