Christmas Decorations

We're working on decorations now.
I put my little tree up over a week ago. :D

I've done both artificial and real trees, depending on the city I've lived in (Real trees don't work well in Phoenix or Tucson unless you get them fresh out of a refrigerated trailer from Oregon for some reason).
Thanks for the plug! Oregon is the nation's #1 producer of Christmas trees although, strangely enough, most of them end up going to Mexico. As a result they're pretty cheap here too, generally around a dollar a foot. Or, if you're really industrious, you can buy a permit from the US Forest Service for five bucks and go cut your own tree down in any National Forest around here.

Don't be fooled by Oregon propaganda.

It's a plot to ruin California's tree population!

Go artificial. Better for you. Better for us.

Thank you for your support.

Growing up, Christmas decorations were a gradual thing. Black Friday was put up the outdoor decorations, and maybe on Advent I my Mom would put up some minor indoor decorations, like candles, an Advent Wreath, and dishtowels. During that week, indoor decorations would slowly appear throughout the house.

The Saturday the day before Advent II or III would be when the tree and nativity set would go up. It all depended on how late Christmas was. This year, it would go up the Saturday right before the Third Sunday of Advent.

Presents would slowly appear then. And more decorations would appear too. A very slow, peaceful, and rewarding process.

I'm hoping to put up light outside tomorrow afternoon. We have a fiberoptic tree and candles up in our living room, and some Santa statues to follow. The nativity set and tree won't go up before next Saturday. More lights in the house to follow. Sam model as my folks, slow, peaceful, and rewarding.

The singing, dancing, Homer Simpson-as-Santa Claus figure is up and running. Christmas Season is officially here.

"Deck the Halls with Buddy Holly, fa la la la la...."

Next up will be all the Star Trek Ornaments for the tree.

Nothing says "Merry Christmas" like Spock in a shuttlecraft, and 7 of 9 hanging out close by.

It takes me forever to put a tree up and take it down. I love extending the Christmas season feeling as much as I can. Everything just feels magical.

All my Christmas stuff is still in the attic. Five extra days to do home stuff, and still didn't manage to get to the Christmas decorations. :klingon: :scream:

I always put a big wreath on the door and usually have a tree in the house, both artificial. Never before the first Sunday of Advent (Sunday after Thanksgiving). I've used artificial for years, mostly because I'm allergic to the real thing.

I also have a creche from my childhood and a couple more contemporary ones. I don't put the old one out any more because the pieces are smaller and become cat toys. Somehow it doesn't feel right to have to drag Baby Jesus out from under the couch. LOL
My "Hannumas" tree is up, with my heart-shaped ornaments. That pretty much all I use--hearts.

But I see that the bulbs at the top are out. Do I just need to replace the first one in the series that's out?

Nobody else does living trees? How sad! :(
Well, my backyard is concrete, so I don't have anywhere to plant anything and last year's was an indoor failure (though it'[s doing ok on the fire escape), and I refuse to buy plants if there's not at least the possibility to keep then alive in the long term, but I do buy large potted plants as an xmas excuse and decorate them This year I got a dracaena, 4-stem, really nice*. I even re-potted it. See? ( cramped location: re: keeping cats from eating it) :

(Hummel-styled manger scene provided by grandmother currently in late stage Alzheimer's, so ditching it for philosophical reasons feels wrong.)

Anyway, holiday decorating done, including purple lights on fire escape, plus Jaeger shots = successful Thanksgiving weekend. :techman:

* All of the above is prefaced by the fact that the Ravens just beat the Steelers in overtime and I am appropriately drunkl.

I'm not really reall feeling it this year. I might skip the tree and tone everything down a bit this year.

Or I might not.

No decorations for me. I just don't care about them, so I can't be arsed. My parents will probably put up a Christmas tree or something in their house, but that's it.

However, I might put a shiny little bow around my dick when I visit my girlfriend on Christmas night. :p

We usually get a real Christmas tree shortly before my birthday (21 December) or just after. It's gone by 6 January. We also have to rush to put up loads of decorations around Christmas Eve time, but as I'm at work right up until Christmas this year, I shall probably not be of much help!

My grandmother is usually a bit quicker - within the first week or two of December she's put her tree up and started on decorations.
