Chris Pine talks Trek and Kirk

I think it is. Thanks for finding this.

"What I will say is that I really think fans will enjoy this new installment. It’s not like anything they've ever seen before: the humor, production, effects and action blend into a great package. There's enough humor and drama and action to satisfy everyone. This is movie for fans and non-fans alike, it’s going to create new generation of fans who have never been exposed to it before – for my generation and younger(.)"

Man, the party line is becoming a bit tired (and with all the secrecy, the party line is about all he can discuss). He makes Bottle Shock sound interesting, though.

An interesting thing he said in a snippet from the Trek Today article was that the movie will follow the lives of the characters from birth, to childhood, to before the five-year mission.

Of course, we already knew that we'd be seeing *some* of Kirk and Spock's past, what with the casting of their parents, but it almost sounds as if the movie will have a great deal more to do with those early days -- before and during their time at the academy -- than was first thought. Perhaps we'll see more of that than of the crew's first mission together, which is what many believed we would see.

I am beginning to think he gets the Kirk character, but I am not sure. I certainly hope they don't take the road that Shatner did with his Trek Academy book where Kirk was a borderline criminal, wise ass before being encouraged into the Academy...yecch

I much prefer the notion (implied in TOS) that Kirk was overly-serious and stuffy in the Academy and only started to loosen up once he'd seen a bit of the galaxy. He started out as Picard, essentially, and grew into Sisko. ;)

Well, Star Trek is all about Kirk in many ways. He's the centre.

Well, it was written by Shatner. He's a talented guy but writing isn't his strong suit, imho.

I think the fact that Paramount/CBS approved Shat's book pretty much means it won't be like the movie at all. If it was they'd have squashed it.
