Chris Pine says new movie will be "Sexed Up" for a new Generation

I dont know if this is old but I just saw this quote that was posted today over on Trekweb by Chris Pine. For some reason I keep thinking of Enterprise and all the Gel scenes when I read this. I hope they dont go over the top just to try and get new fans. It didnt work for Enterprise so I dont see why it would work here. Here is the quote:

"It's trying to be sexed up for a new generation that really isn't used to seeing Star Trek," he added. "It's a whole new beast."
and he also had this to say about the Uhura stripping scene:

Pine also said that the much buzzed about scene in which Zoe Saldana takes her top off will get a lot of attention. "It'll become famous," Pine said of the striptease.
Here is the whole article:

Yeah, I remember everyone said Enterprise would "sex up" Trek as well. We all saw how that turned.

Although, in all honesty, the shirtless Uhura part of the trailer looks a lot more promising than any decon rub-down did. Yes, that's right. I just said something positive.

I have a feeling any sex in this movie will be a lot more down-to-earth and relatable than anything in ENT.

Of course it will be sexed up, not just in the obvious sense. This movie is all about the immediate senses, emotion, surface, coolness. So they should come clean with it and not talk about the alleged "realism" and "functionality" of it anymore, or make deriding remarks about TOS' lack of it. The mainstream they are targetting is not interested in scientific accuracy or a realistic vision of the future, so in fact they couldn't care less.

I haven't seen that much of JJ Abrams' work, but the few episodes of "Alias" I've seen have convinced me that he understands "sexy" far better than B&B ever did.

When "Alias" did sexy, it came across very sophisticated and sultry. Very adult. You know... sexy.

When "Enterprise" tried to do sexy, it came across as a sophomoric joke, or the set-up for a joke. Very immature. You know... "Tits, ha ha".

So long as they sex it up in the former mature and thoughtful manner, I'm all for it. The latter B&B style of sex is more suited to the cheesier "National Lampoon" movies.

I don't mind the sexy as long as it still remains a family friendly entertainment. TOS had sexy without any problems.

I conceed wholheartedly the "juvenile" nature of the sex in some of the enterprise episodes. (and DS9, and Voyager, and STNG, and the movies and....)

I'd take this with a grain of salt. It's in Pine's interest to play Star Trek up as sexy. After all, if everyone's down with the idea he ends up plowing more green chicks ;)

You realize that he's not actually 'plowing' them.

Right? :wtf:

Of course. I just find it funny to play up Kirk's man-whore reputation. Sorry you don't agree.

Fuck family friendly. A film needs no Pg-13 rating to be entertaining.
Family friendly kills 'adult' entertainment, and no, I am not talking about porn.

I'm with blaXXer. Fuck family-friendly. Trek is at its best when it aims for an adult audience. Making Trek increasingly family-friendly is one of the things that's nearly killed the franchise. Modern Trek has become increasingly bland, less controversial and less challenging. Safe. Non-threatening. Pandering.

Boring!

I'm hoping for a film with some real substance to it, which hasn't been stripped-down and sanitized so as to not offend the overly-sensitive.

As long as they finally do shed the immature and juvenile approach of recent Trek then fine. I was watching some Enterprise repeats lately and had forgotten how bad some of the attempts were.

There's a difference between "family friendly" and "family focused." Something can be aimed for adults - specifically so it's something that they particularly can appreciate - while still being something that kids can enjoy and be safe watching.

"The Dark Knight" was VERY much an adult film. But it wasn't so brutal that kids couldn't watch it. In fact, I'm sure kids loved it for plenty of reasons (some of which were, and some of which were not, shared by adults).

Yeah, kids just LOVE looking at the horribly mutilated face of a man...

I actually know several kids who were terrified by it.

Yeah, but at the end of the movie, were they glad they saw it? Did they enjoy themselves?

I've known several kids who saw the movie. Some were scared, some not. All of them enjoyed it, however.

Ah, so
skin and flesh burned off a man's face = good
a little bit of sex (not porn of course) = bad
?
