Chris Pine hasn’t heard anything about ST IV

These movies haven't exactly set the world on fire. If this was the end I wouldn't be all that surprised. It's time for Star Trek to shine on he small screen.

I think Paramount (via Brad Grey) gave "green light" for the fourth film, last year. But Brad Grey is officially out of Paramount Pictures, so, the company passes through a transition moment.
In my opinion, almost all projects were put on hold.
An important point was that Paramount and Bad Robot signed a contract to July 2018.
Bob Bakish, Viacom CEO, outlined a plan earlier this month that will see the studio collaborating on one to two movies a year from Viacom cable properties such as MTV and Comedy Central.
Further, there is co-financing from chineses over the next three years. What will projects receive investment from chineses?
I don't know whether that is good or bad.

I agree that beyond felt like star trek again after into darkness.

However I want JJ Abrams to direct star trek 4 and have pegg and jung write the script.

as much as i loved Beyond over STID, the stakes in Beyond felt low even if it wasn't. I love how the stakes feel so high when jj abrams directs, A feeling I did not get with Beyond.

if zoe sadly can't return, they could bring back carol macus but I am sure zoe will be in the film even if it is just a cameo. perhaps her and spock got hitched and have a kid now and she left star fleet to raise the kid while spock stayed......something of that type of storyline will be used to explain why she is mostly absent.

I also feel they should replace Chekov with a female character.

I still think the movie will happen and am not too surprised that nothing has been said yet to Pine or others in terms of concrete details of the plot etc. Paramount are in the middle of a clean up and even then I doubt the script would be done until late into the year with pre production and filming in 2018 and post production and a release date in 2019. They need to hit a May release date (of course Avengers 4 will limit when in May) but it's the best chance for the movie to have legs after a (hopefully) solid opening weekend.

Fine by me if they stop. They weren't my cup of tea. Hopeful about the series though. I hope it is hopeful and exporatory and let's-go. Though that is far from the ethos of our day.

They probably haven't heard anything because there's not much yet in development. There's not even a ghost of a script at this point. It's way too soon to be talking about ST4 not happening. If it's December 2017, and I've not heard anything, then I'll start to worry. Until then, I can wait.

Its happening, Abrahms has confirmed some cast. Just not happening fast. Giving good justice in terms of maintaining premium CGI means you can't have it back to back. Disney can pull it off for Starwars only because it absolutely owns it, and intends to milk the franchise to death over as long a period as possible, it inherited Lucas Arts, has kids shows pushing storylines.... This Star Trek movie series needs high end actors and looks, and those actors have screen competition, and investors as well as stock critically looks at everything cautiously.

I see no evidence this is slowing down, but the fact Captain Kirk's dad is returning suggests Kirk is either about to end the timeline, or he is about to undergo a serious interspective struggle leading to massive character growth.

This is going to take time, don't want these rushed. They will come out looking like crap if you do.

Well, that's my definition of a worst case scenario.

I'm not a fan of JJ and was very happy Pegg was writing the third one, being pretty sure he'd 'get' Trek in a way that JJ really didn't.

What we got was a third instalment stylistically indistinguishable from the previous two, and no improvement whatsoever. Worse IMHO.

JJ, Pegg, Jung...what was that about madness being doing the same thing and expecting different results ?

It's all relative. I loved Star Trek: Beyond, and want to see more Trek films like it. One woman's madness is another woman's inspiration.

Oh, I agree. I disliked so much about Beyond, but I'm not a big fan of '09 and STID, and JJ isn't exactly on the list of filmmakers I like.

Other people obviously like the films, and I wouldn't want to deny them further films, but as a general Trek fan, I know I'll end up going to see them, not liking them, buying the Bluray, buying the special edition...

Yeah, my own fault I know. I watched every episode of Voyager too...and purchased the DVD's.

Took them a while to sort things out at MGM a few years ago so that James Bond could continue. If this takes more than a year or two they may have to look at revising a number of things, but they'll do a fourth one.

We appreciate your sacrifices in helping us get more of the Star Trek we like.:bolian:

Thank you !

Just counted - I have three copies of '09. A couple of U.K. versions and I recently got the American Compendium. Which means I've got two copies of STID too - the UK limited two disc, and it's in the Compendium too.

Only got the two disc Beyond so far, but will probably pick up the 3D version at some point.

Geez, I really like the Kelvin films and yet I still haven't got any copies of Beyond because I dislike the splitting of features.
