Chris Pine. Confirmed

The casting choices so far seem really interesting...I don't know most of them except for Quintro and Eric Bana of course as well as Leonard Nimoy. I'm slowly becomine more pysched for this movie...next Christmas is going to be a Trek Christmas! Will be curious to see if Urban gets the McCoy role or someone else does!

Haven't really seen the guy in anything...and that's probably a good thing, since I don't have any opinion of him yet. Will be intresting to see the movie in any case.

I noticed that the original ST.com posting about Chris Pine said "The New Captain Kirk: Chris Pine" and then they revised it later to say "The New James T. Kirk: Chris Pine." Story spoiler?

I'm not sure what you mean.

I look at it again, and, no, it's not really a story 'spoiler.' I think it's just another log to throw on the 'Kirk gets his captainship sometime during the movie' fire.

We'll make sure they write in a scene early on where he's riding a taun taun in the snow and a wampa comes up and claws at his face.

...I was just curious. Personally, I think he is gonna be an awesome Kirk! I can't wait to see him in the command gold! So, a little bit off topic, but has it been officially confirmed whether or not we will in fact see Kirk's infamous solution to the Kobayashi Maru scenario?

I think it's a valid story piece. It's an important part of Kirk's past, and it could be the 'one story' that Abrams wanted to tell (or however he phrased it).

Until the lights go down and the movie starts to roll it's going to be hard for me to accept anyone else except Shatner playing Kirk. We've seen the Shatner Kirk for so long.... will my brain accept Pine's portrayal?

I'm sure it will. However it won't stop me from wondering if he'll sit in the chair the same way, have the same swager, speak sentences with the same pauses.... it's best not to worry or my brain might explode.

I think, if you can make his hair look like the 1st-season Shatner hair, and put him into an accurate TOS or pre-TOS uniform, people will accept him as Kirk very easily. (I haven't heard his VOICE yet... anyone got a clip where we can hear that?)

It's one movie... those little twists... even colored contacts if you really wanna be ... um... "retentive" about things?... and I think that they've made a fine choice. If he's a decent actor and can actually play the role (instead of egotistically "trying to make it his own") I think that this will work out wonderfully.

I don't envy Chris Pine in playing Kirk...do you play Kirk, or William Shatner as Kirk? You know...the unique...choppy....style....of...speaking.

Easy. You play Kirk. Aping Shatner would come off as comedy, so it's not an option.

Of course "playing Kirk," a character who exists to a pretty large extent via Shatner's mannerisms, isn't going to be easy at all without the mannerisms.

There's a good-sized article in today's (101907) Chicago Tribune titled, "To boldly go where other actors have gone before." It shows both the old and new actors/crew members and mentions JJA and Bana.
