Chris Nolan looking for "Superman" director

^ I agree about Natalie Portman. When she was in contention last time round (or was it even during the McG/ Abrams days) I didn't see her as Lois material and I still don't really, much as I like her.

McAdams does strike me as a better choice.

It would be interesting if we had Lois already cast before Superman is actually announced. As for Natalie Portman not being "brassy" enough, that might be true but that's because no one has really written her like that. I think Goyer and Johah would use the source material and write the character using all of the characteristics we know and love. Quite frankly Lois hasn't really been that "brassy" in the comics in a long time.

^ I imagine that chemistry with whoever ends up playing Superman will be important. It's hard to imagine that they'll cast Lois before they cast him. Probably audition various actresses with the leading man.

If Darren Aronfsky signed on and cast Portman, I think it would be another instance of someone being cast just because of who they know, rather than because they are right for the part, which is annoying. I think that's what happened with Kate Bosworth in "Superman Returns". Kevin Spacey just enjoyed working with her in "Beyond the Sea", so he convinced Bryan Singer to cast her, and she was totally wrong for the part.

Keri Russell would be a good choice. She screen tested with Routh

Kate Bosworth might have been suggested by Kevin Spacey but she still had to go through the audition process just like every other actress did. You see parts of her audition with Brandon in the Superman Returns making of documentary. Everyone has their own views who would be a good Superman and who would be a good Lois and I agree until the actors are tested together this is only all pure speculation. It's just exciting to see that the ball is rolling on the project.

I thought Kate Bosworth did a good job. Again, she played Lois Lane as written and directed- she was more mature and not as spunky or rambunctious as we've used to seen traditionally from the character.

Natalie Portman is a good actress, but I just don't see her as Lois. Rachel McAdams or Keri Russell would be much better suited to the part, IMO. I'd love to see Rachel Weisz play Lois, but she may be a tad too old for the part now. I really don't want to see a 40ish Lois in sequels.

I don't see Aranofsky as a director well-suited for Superman, either. But we'll see how it shakes out, I guess.

Not to mention Kate was playing a more subdued version of the Margot Kidder character. Erica Durance's portrayal of Lois is I think what most fans think of Lois with maybe Terri Hatcher as well. Lois is much more mature and subtle in the comics these days and picks her spots sort to speak. For example she's really firey and like the Lois of old in the War of the Supermen storyline, mostly due to the family issues she has to deal with in the arc.

You know who could direct a vibrant and lively Superman? It'll never happen -- and fanboy wrath will be upon me for saying this -- but Joel Schumacher.

Of course, if he wanted to, he could've made a dark and demented Batman movie that made Tim Burton look like Toy Story by comparison.

You know, if Batman and Robin didn't exist, I think Batman Forever would probably be more fondly remembered.

One problem I had with her was that, at 23, she was simply way too young to play the role as written. She was supposed to play an older version of the Margot Kidder character, who was 32 at the time of Superman II. I just didn't buy that Bosworth was an experienced, Pulitzer-price winning journalist and a mother.

Olivia Wilde is an interesting choice. She looks the part at least. Here are my top five actress picks for Lois Lane

1.Zooey Deschanel
2.Natalie Portman
3.Rachel McAdams
4.Mary Elizabeth Winstead
5.Rose Byrne (although since she's working on X-Men:First Class this seems unlikely)

Yeah my problem with Kate was that she was supposed to be playing a more mature, slightly older Lois modeled on Margot Kidder. I didn't buy it either...she did a decent job but she wasn't Lois.

12 years ago Sandra Bullock would have been perfect. She can do persistent nagging Lois
Make that 22 years ago.

Aronofsky's very modest box office results won't help him get this job.

The Natalie Portman story is not to be believed. I doubt that she would want to be the leading lady in two different superhero franchises.

I want to hear that Nolan going with Brandon Routh. The downside is minimal. Barring that, I am prepared to laugh out loud if the choice for Superman turns out to be Joseph Gordon-Levitt or someone equally weird.

I'd bet if the internet were around in its commercial form in '88 Michael Keaton would've mocked when chosen. That turned out alright for a seemingly 'weird choice'.

Come on, Keaton could get away with it because of the full mask and costume. It's a totally different matter for actors playing Superman.

I wouldn't mind Matthew Bomer as Superman, barring Nolan or whomever gets chosen as director doesn't go with Routh again.
