Chris Hemsworth is [NOT!] Sarek

Does fanon/canon have anything to say about Kirk's father other than him dying?
There was an '80s novel called "Final Frontier" (Diane Duane?) that had George Samuel Kirk, Sr. as a protagonist, serving aboard ... wait for it ... the USS Enterprise under Capt. Robert April
Diane Carey, actually.

How many characters are going to be IN this frakkin' thing?!? :guffaw:

After the oh so exciting news of Winona Ryder giving birth to Mr. Spock, we have two new names confirmed to join the Trek cast.

This better be a joke. I haven't checked the rest of the forum yet. That role belongs to Ellen Green!

Kirk's father.
Well, I take back my WTF. (And save it for later.)

Still, at 24, I guess Hemsworth will be in the film just long enough to be blasted by the Romulans (pre-Kirk's birth). It sounds like about as good a role as Bruce Wayne's dad.

This explains why I've never heard of him, anyway.

Very glad he's not playing Sarek, then.

Re: Chris Hemsworth is Sarek

You know the rules... pic pic pic.

Sarek shouldn't be hot- The Young George Washington looked like a Young Mel Gibson, ie S T U D.

Why can't historical figures be HOT?

So...he's younger than Chris Pine, and he's playing his father.

Right.

Merciful God in Heaven above!

That seems like a much better fit. Probably a flashback / scene set during Kirk's childhood.

This really does seem to be shaping up as a real origin story, at least in scope.

Yeah, it probably is in a flashback capacity; especially since Abrams' style often involves crosscutting between present and past events that all seem to tie into the overall plot.

Tada!
It looks like the only reference in TOS is the Tarsus IV thing. I guess "canon" is pretty sparse in this area.

Coincidentally, Kirk's mother appears to have been called Winona Kirk.

Re: Chris Hemsworth is Sarek

I hope they show what really happen to George Kirk Sr? I believe he hadn't die. But is missing and assume to be dead.

He's a blond muscley Australian actor who recently went to the US to try his luck in Hollywood. Won a Best New Talent (Australian) Logie Award in 2005. Solid Kirk-family qualities.

Right.

I knew there was something wrong with this idea....

So I'm guessing Spock's parents knew Kirk's parents? or what?? Ryder is ok for Spock's mum and this Aussie guy is ok for Kirk's dad if during that time K&S at most toddlers... So we'll have 3 Spocks? Who will play the youngest one? :)

However do you extrapolate that with any conviction? Just relax and enjoy the wait.

So we'll have 3 Spocks?

We had five in "ST III" and three in "Yesteryear" (TAS). So what?

Re: Chris Hemsworth is Sarek

Actually, this guy looks more like a young William Shatner than Chris Pine does, IMHO. Time for some role-swapping?!

Given that he's younger than Pine (outdoing even the casting of Winona Ryder as the mother of the 7-years-younger Zach Quinto), I assume that his role will be in flashback, a la Thomas Wayne in Batman Begins or Jonathan Archer's father in Broken Bow. Seems a good bet, given Abrams' penchant for time-juggling in Lost and MI:3.

With at least 3 time periods (old Spock's time, young Kirk & Spock's time and, er, really young Kirk & Spock's time) his movie is really beginning to say 'EPIC'! Can't wait!

I always thought Adrian Pasdar would make a good Sarek.

If they do something about his height, that's a great idea.

Also will be amusingly weird for Heroes fans. Especially if Milo shows up as a Romulan. :rommie:

But, sadly, no acting qualities - he was in the trashiest of trashy Australian television programs. They can find blond, muscley prettyboys anywhere...it's Hollywood for goodness' sake. And I really don't want to see Hemsworth try to do an American accent.

I've never regarded the long-lasting "Home and Away" to be "trashy". It's a prime time soap opera, sure, but the truly trashy stuff tends to be a flash in the pan.

Chris Hemsworth did a good job of playing a boofheaded muscley surfer, but I haven't seen him do anything else. Except I know that he managed to charm the judges and audience of "Dancing With the Stars", week after week, so he's not that bad.

And he's managed to win the ST audition with JJ. So he obviously has something going for him; unless you wish to imply "casting couch" rumours. ;)

And Hemsworth won over all of them. Onya Chris!

Kirk's Dad was definitely American? Do we know that? Nope.

Where's your sense of pride in a fellow Australian making into Star Trek?

Re: Chris Hemsworth is Sarek

^ The vast majority of Aussie actors that get cast in US productions are forced to conceal their Australian accents...Rachel Taylor (who is from my hometown) in Transformers being a notable, recent exception.

The mere fact that an Australian actor has been given a role in a Trek production is not enough to make me proud. Since a great Australian, Eric Bana, has already been cast in this film, it's hard to get excited by a guy who played a character I don't like in a show I can't stand and who wouldn't be out of place modelling boxerbriefs in a Best & Less catalogue.
