CHOOSING A SURGEON

Maybe someone here can help me, I need to select a orthopedic surgeon, but how do you? I'm not always the best judge of people, what do you use to decide. Every doctor is going to tell you that they are the best. And I can't consult with every doc in the city to see who gives me a good vibe. If I lived in a town with only a few surgeons this would be easier, but I have too many choices.

HELP !

Is there a doctor equivalent of ratemyprofessors.com? Word of mouth is obviously best, you might ask around.

^ There are plenty of ratings sites out there.

As for surgeons, find the one with the smallest God complex. ;)

Don't you get a referral from a specialist or your GP to take care of that? They would have a better idea (well one would hope) of who's available and possible what their speciality might be.

That would be the one is Dr SuchnSuch not Mr SuchnSuch :)

That's always worked for me and I've had a bunch of unpleasant things happen to me in the past decade.

Echoed. Though if he responds with something like "there are a number of them", I'd ask the doctor which one they'd take their child or spouse to.

Q. What's the difference between an orthopaedic surgeon and God?
A. God doesn't think he can do hip replacements.

(and just because turnabout is only fair play:

Q. What's the difference between a psychiatrist and his patients?
A. The patients just think they're God, the shrink knows he is.)

One picks up a zillion of these:

Q. What's the definition of a double-blind study?
A. Two orthopods looking at an ECG.

Q. How do you hide a ten dollar bill from an orthopod?
A. Put it in a book.

Q. What's the difference between an orthopod and a carpenter?
A. The carpenter knows more than one antibiotic.

On topic - doctors know doctors.

Why would you need anything more than Zosyn? ;)

Yes, particularly ones that do something peripherally related to the surgical specialty.

I dislocated two bones in my right foot while running, I didn't like the very young podiatrist my doctor sent me to. Most likely going with the doctor who operated on my mom last year. And I will pray that I make the correct decision.
