Chirs Hemsworth's role...

Kokomo

Commander
Red Shirt
So, we all know that Chris Hemsworth will be playing Kirk's dad, but what do you all think his scenes will encompass?

Hopefully his sum total appearances will be non speaking. Seriously, terrible actor, so painful to watch, I'll be boycotting if he gets just one line. :D

Well, Chris Hemsworth is a bronzed, blond Aussie surfer guy who once played a troubled, bronzed, blond Aussie surfer guy in a prime time soap opera. But he was popular enough to win a prominent popularity award for his acting from his fans.

Obviously he did something right to catch JJ's attention. Perhaps George Kirk Sr. was a troubled, bronzed surfer guy?

Well, Chris Hemsworth wasn't important enough to get a listing on the movie, so I don't think you have to worry about his part being very substantial.

I believe that his job is to introduce us to who George Kirk is, how he's close to his sons (Jimmy and Sam), and then to die... creating a motivation for Jimmy Kirk to start on his path towards becoming Captain James T. Kirk.

Ten minute sex scene with Jennifer Morrison, while Nero watches from behind some bins. It's Kirk's conception!

At the pemiere of Cloverfied he and certain cast members (Grenwood,Cho, Yelchin) was interviewed when they passed by a reporter and its on film where he states that he and Jennifer Morrison had just finished filming a lot of scenes on the deck of the ship which means he might have something to do with the construction of the ship.

Is it canon that Jim's dad was a Starfleet officer? I know of the story, Best Destiny, in which defiant teenage Jimmy reluctantly goes aboard the Enterprise with his dad and Capt. April but I don't recall if that was based on anything established on screen.

Well since this is a origin story there is always a first time. Maybe he is a engineer of starship design and that is why he is aboard along with his wife.

It's not canon, nope. At least... not YET. But Orci has shown a particular affection for certain prose Trek works, and "Best Destiny" seems to be one of them. I mean, it also was never canon that Jim Kirk's parents were George and Winona... but we know that it is now.

I strongly suspect that "Best Destiny" could be treated (with exceptions?) as a "prequel" of sorts to this film.

That's my view... your mileage may vary.

They could do worse. It's a good story. I have it as an audio-novel as read by Doohan. He does a great job with it.

"Best Destiny" is a sequel to a previous Diane Carey novel, "Final Frontier", which starts with Captain Robert April and his doctor fiancee, Sarah Poole, "kidnapping" George Kirk Sr onto the first mission of the USS Enterprise (launched before it even gets a coat of paint).

The great thing about James Doohan doing the audios of these books is that he was also the voice of April in TAS. At the end of "Final Frontier", April does the monologue we hear Kirk do at the beginning of each episode of TOS!

I have been following all the news on this, plus I have a lot of "inside information", if you catch my drift, and I haven't heard that anywhere. What is your source?
