'Chinese Democracy' Has a Release Date

Velvet Revolver has been a mixed bag so far. Their two CDs were average IMO. It looks like Scott Weiland is probably out of VR, from what I've been hearing.

Weiland was booted out of Velvet Revolver a while ago. As far as I know, the band is still searching for a new lead singer.

Hah, according to Slash sure. Actually Weiland announced on stage in the UK that the band were splitting up, and then a few weeks later Slash claimed that they had all been planning to kick him out all along, they just didn't get round to telling him before he caused the band to implode

No matter anyway, STP are 10 times the band Velvet Revolver were, i've seen both bands twice and there is absolutely no comparison. I'm not saying I don't like VR, I rather do actually and the second VR album was substantially better than the first which was pretty OK, but they are a terrible fit ultimately. The GnR guys are pretty much just a bunch of blues rockers, Weiland's music is a lot more complex than that.

Very true. This is not Guns N' Roses. Axl Rose was not what made the band great back in the day. With everyone but Axl gone, I really don't know how interested I am. I'd really be more eager for Velvet Revolver to find a new frontman and get back to work.

Absolutely right.

Axl recording without the other guys, and touring as GnR is like:

Robert Plant calling the Strange Sensation 'Led Zeppelin'
Paul McCartney calling himself 'The Beatles'
Dave Grohl calling the Foo Fighters 'Nirvana'
Brian May and Roger Taylor and Paul Rodgers performing as Queen (oh, wait! ;) )

This IS NOT Guns n Roses.

The difference is that all the members of Guns N' Roses either quit or were fired. It's not like they all decided to split up. So when was the actual point that Guns N' Roses ended for you? When Tracii Guns left? Stephen Adler? Izzy?

Whether anyone likes it or not this is Guns N' Roses.

I'm curious, how the heck did Axl Rose end up owning the rights to the name "Guns & Roses?" Because from what I understand, other band members could NOT create a competing G&R project - just Axl, because he holds the rights. Was everyone else just really stoned that day and Axl got them to sign away their right to the band name?

I give the guy a lot of credit for that business coup, however he managed it.

Interesting how fans are willing to tolerate band line up changes if the singer is still the same.

Conversely, when the rest of the band remains the same, and the frontman changes, controversy ensues. The replacement of Ozzy with Dio in Sabbath, the exit of Roth and the addition of Hagar in Van Halen, the replacement of Dickinson with Blaze Bayley in Maiden; all were very controversial changes with the fans.

But GnR without Slash or Duff? No, thanks.

Velvet Revolver should get Chris Cornell. He hasn't got a band at the moment.
That would be awesome.

Yes, it would be. Although Cornell is one of the 'American singers' rumoured to be working with Led Zep's Page, Jones, and Jason Bonham at the moment. So I don't know if he's available. If the rumours are true.

Cornell's currently working on his third album, this one being done with Timbaland -- I'd be shocked if he were able to actually get along with the Zeppelin boys.

Or VR for that matter. Cornell is used to playing with extremely diverse musicians and being the primary songwriter anyway, no way is he a good fit for Velvet Revolver, terrible terrible idea.

As for Zep, he has precisely the voice required to pull it off, but fronting a group playing almost exclusively other people's material is just not his style. Cornell is not just a singer for hire, he's far too talented for that. Audioslave was a co-operative, but it's clear that they split because Cornell was constantly pulling in his own direction.

I dunno, people leaving the band for one reason or another sure sounds like splitting up to me.

But it wasn't a mutual thing, Axl didn't want to leave so he didn't. Guns N' Roses have never split up, there has merely been different members.

That was pretty much it.

I'd rather have GN'R without Slash or Duff than without Axl.
