As if 50+ books of a scifi series was required reading anywhere....^^^...^^^...^^^...^^^...
I'm well-aware that if you had already passed 5th grade,
when the book was released, then it would not have been required reading,
for your 5th grade class.
Where does the popcorn go after he eats it? This is reminding me of what really confuses me about the snake that eats his own tail, how does he shit?
Well, at the very least that is an impressive amount of thought into the matter. The same place your blood goes when you drink it (if you're one of the very popular self-harming pseudo-vampires).
As for ouroboroses, they have already begun the process of destroying themselves in a non-regenerative way (no matter how slow the digestive system is). Without looking into the details of reptilian digestion, once the ouroboros destroys any of its lower digestion system (anus, intestines), it will not be able to excrete, and likely suffer septic shock (in addition to copious amounts of blood loss and kidney failure).
Method of digestion matters though. If it's chewing, then it will pass away quickly from self-destruction, never even reaching the stomach (probably). If it's doing what snakes usually do, however, and simply swallowing itself whole, then it will only be able to get itself about half way (depending on size) up itself before the end of the tail is dissolved by stomach acid or manages to get entangled in the entrails.
The ouroboros at that point would likely attempt to vomit out itself (actually, probably before), but if this proves impossible, it will just be frozen in place. Easy pickings for a predator or scavenger after it dies of starvation.
