Children of the Storm/Voyager Novels Podcast

It's not hard to understand JD.

Just as in Firefly where 'Serenity' was a character unto herself... Many stories that feature a vessel of distinct note, tend to become a character unto themselves.

I felt it when the Defiant was destroyed, and especially when Kirk did what he's always done and turned death into a fighting chance to live ala Star Trek III.

^ Agreed with you both. For shows that feature ships heavily, the ship itself becomes something of a character. Sometimes it's because they're actually alive (Moya, the TARDIS, even KITT from Knight Rider), but just as often its the same way people today get attached to their ships/vehicles (all the Enterprises, Defiant, Serenity). Heck, Rio Grande became a beloved part of DS9, and it's only a Runabout! Seeing them destroyed or damaged can be really moving (the aforementioned Enterprise, and how heartbreaking was it to watch Talyn die on Farscape?)

Voyager
's an awesome little ship (really, I think I'm in the minority about finding Intrepids nice-looking).
