Children of Earth

Mistral

Vice Admiral
Admiral
A 5-part miniseries airing in July on BBCUSA, it's a Torchwood spin-off.

Is this going to be a continuing series? And is it adult(ala Torchwood) or childish like Sarah Jane Chronicles? And why do the ads look like an update of The Stepford Wives with children instead of adults? And what rock have I been hiding under that I didn't hear about it until last night?;)

It's not a spin off, it's just the title of the story that covers the 5 part series.
It's going to be shown over the space of 1 week.

Well, there might or might not be another full 13-episode series in the future, but for all intents and purposes the five episodes of "Children of Earth" are the third series of Torchwood.

Budget cuts seem to be the likely reason.

Actually the main reason for the reduced season is John Barrowman. Basically when it came to negotiations for the contracts for season 3, Barrowman said he would either only do it if they filmed series 3 and 4 back to back so he could have more time for other projects, or if it was a vastly shorter series. They went with option 2.

Of course thats only the official line. I remember when they were saying the reason why Doctor Who only had specials this year was so that David Tennant could have time to do other stuff, and still return for a full series next year, and look how that turned out.

Even that is BS. The truth is that it's all budget-saving measures. They just don't want to own up to that.

If the Beeb were short of cash for its most popular dramas, the whole world would know. The actors want to do different things. In JB's case he's all over the TV like a cheap suit.

So true. But the Beeb is budget cutting since the last charter was lower than requested, and all that stuff, true they're mostly cutting News and Current Affairs, but I would think they're cutting elsewhere too.

It's a pity they butchered worthwhile magazines like Panorama and put an oleaginous creep like Jeremy Vine in post. No wonder all the really good researchers left en masse.

Why would the BBC lie? We all know they are a completely trustworthy institution who uses our TV license to produce top quality entertainment.

Next you will be telling me Blue Peter, Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Crapfest and Richard And Judy fix Phone competitions.
;)

It is a shame that the news and current affairs is getting the shitty end of the stick all the time, that and children's. Not often that I'll agree with the commercial media but they're right that the Beeb should have more of that stuff because of their guaranteed income.
