Children in Need mini-episode planned

Just a head's up, the BBC has indicated that this weekend's Children in Need telethon is going to include a Doctor Who mini-episode to go along with the preview of the Christmas special. Apparently it was filmed either today or within the last couple days (the Twitter website is actually down right now - the HORROR! - so I can't check the dates on the links in the story):

It'll be interesting to see if Moffat delivers another in-canon mini-story, or he does a comedy skit like Merlin and other shows have done for CIN (Merlin has parodied itself a couple of times, though I think last year they just ran a blooper reel). Although Moffat wrote Time Crash for CIN earlier, this is the first time he's done one since becoming showrunner so he could go either way on this. I actually thought originally that Death is the Only Answer, the student-written mini-episode, would debut during CIN.

should be interesting to find out what is being planned (also what kind of time its going to air)

We can always hope for another Time Crash, but so far nothing has beaten it, Music of the Spheres, Death is the Only Answer, Time & Space, andthe NTA thing (ok that wasnt in canon)

Ooh, sounds cool. I agree that Time Crash is probably the best mini-sode so far. One can only hope this will be as good or better.

There was a tweet over the weekend about one of the post-production staff finding it cool to be "editing Daleks" - I'd guess that's for this...

The tweet about the script being "not what we expect" makes me wonder if this'll be more a comedy skit than a straight episode. However, Moffat gave us a straight story that fit canon for Comedy Relief with not a red nose in sight (unlike the Sarah Jane mini they did) so unless the plot involves that teddy bear it'll be OK. And heck, even if it isn't a "serious" story, I'm sure it'll be a lot of fun. I still get a kick out of that Merlin one they did a few years back where everyone suddenly had modern-day technology - seeing Uther Pendragon yapping at a guy over a cell phone and Merlin enjoying microwaved curry still cracks me up!

What happened to that children-written mini-episode with Einstein which we saw being produced during Confidential. Is that for Children in Need or is it something separate?

Well good. Much prefer a mini-eps to a boring teaser trailer.

They ended up showing it as part of the last Confidential episode.

Wasn't that good if you want my honest opinion.

according to the provisional schedule for the evening in the RT, it's supposed to be on between 8PM and 8:30PM, Wamdue. it should certainly be on earlier than later.

Oh, well, now I feel dumb. I haven't gotten around to watching the final episode of Confidential yet. I guess I should do that now.

I dunno - a comedy skit is exactly what pretty much everybody *will* expect (once established that it's an actual new bit and not just a clip or trailer for the Xmas show)

Maybe they mean it's Doctorless or something.

According to the Doctor Who News Page, the scene was recorded Tuesday (in DW's old home, the BBC Television Centre, for the first time since Ghost Light ended production of the original series in '89), and it doesn't appear to be a canonical mini-episode as it's all about launching an online auction for CIN - they're selling the Doctor's costume from The Doctor's Wife along with a signed copy of the script.

Still sounds like it'll be fun, but calling it a mini-episode is probably a bit of a stretch.

The report also confirms that we'll learn the title of the Christmas special tomorrow during the broadcast.
