Chekhov MIA??

You know, as pedantic as the internet can be, I'm astounded that no one's complained about the OP's spelling of "Chekhov" yet. :p
The spelling has cropped up that way in the novels on occasion. I remember that J.M. Dillard spelled it that way in one of her books (I want to say Mindshadow). Since you're transliterating from a non-Latin alphabet, the spelling is valid either way. :)

Actually it isn't, since "k" and "kh" represent two different Cyrillic letters, ka (К), which is the same as the English K sound (a voiceless velar plosive), and kha (Х), which is a voiceless velar fricative as in "loch." So "Chekov" and "Chekhov" are both spelled differently in Cyrillic (Че́ков for the former, Че́хов for the latter) and pronounced differently.

Oi! My Russian class years ago taught me wrong. :)

Yep. The novel also featured an Andorian ambassador named Thelev, the name of Shras's deceased, disguised-Orion assistant ("Journey to Babel"), but she probably meant to use Shras himself.

I found it interesting that even though it was obviously McCoy he was never referred to by name on the show itself. Just two episodes later we're facing the same sort of disease that McCoy cured years earlier and no mention of him at all IIRC. They dropped Kirk in there while checking the history tapes but Data didn't say "Hey, it was cured by the same admiral we saw two weeks ago. We should call him." :guffaw:

Not only are all the main crew, with the possible exception of Sulu, not only alive and hale and hardy but most are still on active duty. I wonder where Kyle and Leslie are. Either way it would appear that the previous mandatory retirement age was lifted at the behest of Robert April after all.
