Cheese & Cheese, what is Cheese?

In reference to Collins comment about not being able to watch TOS because of cheese/camp.

Exactly what do you believe is "cheese" or "camp"in TOS?

Now there are certainly episodes of TOS that I will avoid, Plato's Stepchildren (humiliation factor), The Way to Eden (space hippies) or And the Children Shall Lead (obnoxious kids).

But when I think of cheese and camp I think 1960's Batman (Pow! Wham!). Second or third season Lost in Space (talking carrots and space carnivals).

So how do you think TOS compares to these other shows?

i don't think it was ever cheesy or camp, but there are a few episodes that let the side down (Spock's Brain, Way to Eden) due to either incredibly dumbass ideas or flawed execution

I think you are right on the money there. Also, eps like "The Lights of Zetar" also just leaving me rolling my eyes.

Cheese is the best thing that ever happened to food and makes up 90% of my diet.

But I have no dea what it has to do with Star Trek.

It is however, what I eat when I'm watching Star Trek.

Cheesey? Sometimes, not often. Most cheese is in the third season because most the time the production values and scripts weren't as good as in seasons one and two.
Campy, as in very outrageous or anachronistic? Sometimes, and a bit more often. A campy episode wasn't necessarily bad, but just a bit over the top and, at least in most cases, not meant to be taken too seriously.
Some examples of what I'd say was camp: "A Piece of the Action," "The Trouble with Tribbles," "The Squire of Gothos," "Shore Leave," "Spectre of the Gun," "The Way to Eden."

TOS wasn't campy then. It would be campy now, if done in the same style.

Camp elements include: Kirk chasing green alien chicks; beehive hairdo's and miniskirts; velour uniforms; the gaudy color scheme (red-green-blue lights on highly reflective surfaces); Shatner's over-acting; any use of gold lame' or silver foil in costumes; overwrought fight music; Rome Planet/Nazi Planet/Wild West Planet/Gangster Planet stories; and the "jokey" endings of episodes where everyone on the bridge laughs heartily (blergh). Believe me, that's only a partial list.

None of this needs to be continued as is in the TOS recasting. There's nothing to be concerned with, this is a huge non-issue.
