the ranting thread is quite popular but one should always think positive, and surely something good or funny happened to you today. So please share your positive experiences, adventures and findings and help cheering others up.

What made my day today is this police report:
Cucumber massacre near Marklkofen
media.media.3ede4562-7e7f-4338-bd44-f096868ada2a.original1024.jpeg

The green slobber that covered a road near Marklkofen Tuesday night originated neither from an alien attack nor from slime monsters: A farmer had lost his load of cucumbers.
Following cars then mashed the vegetables that the farmer had transported in a trailer along the ST2111. Two power sweepers and several firemen were required to clear up the mess.

Apart from the cucumbers, nobody was injured.

This cheered me up awhile ago. A King penguin at the Calgary Zoo is a proud single mom:

Source.

Penguins normally share parenting duties, but since this is in a zoo, there really wasn't any need for the father to stick around and care for the egg while the mother went off to the ocean to feed and renew her strength.

I had no idea newly-hatched penguin chicks looked like that. I've never seen them without feathers before.

It's still a cute baby, though. :)

Someone must have relished driving by this, surely

Here's some genuinely good news:

A Better Way To Eliminate Landmines With This Drone| TechMalak.com

A new KICKSTARTER campaign by Massoud Hassani and his brother Mahmud Hassani, looks to help in the demining process with the Mine Kafon Drone, which could potentially eliminate the world’s landmines in under 10 years.

These brothers who grew up in Afghanistan, saw the many horrors landmines have caused in their home country. Fueled by a passion and a desire to make the world a safer place, the duo founded The Mine Kafon Foundation based in the Netherlands.
...
This Drone, not only demines up to 20 times faster than traditional technologies, it’s some 200 times cheaper than its competitors.

According to the provided stats on the funding page, there are 100 million landmines around the world. An astonishing amount, which sees 10 civilians badly damaged or killed daily.

From Africa to Cambodia, more than 60 countries around the world are dealing with this clear and present danger.

Traditional methods include people, animals, and vehicles working together to demine an area, which often times causes injury or claim the lives of those working to rid the earth of this danger.

Using GPS with aerial 3D mapping, MKD can survey an area by laying out waypoints. It then uses a robotic metal arm and hovers 4cm above the ground for mine detection.

Once these mines are detected, the robotic arm places a detonator that explodes the mine. It’s a safe way of getting rid of these explosive devices without anyone getting harmed in the process.

As your linked story is certainly appreciated, @{ Emilia } , I think your tone is not quite in the spirit of this thread. It's not a competition, you know.

My tone wasn't meant to be entirely serious at all, the post was pretty tongue-in-cheek, which I thought was obvious since I was talking about something as cute and awesome as heroic rats. ;)
I realize that the lack of emoticons can sometimes lead to misunderstandings, though. This is one of those cases as my light-hearted tone apparently totally failed to reach you. I figured it was obvious that my tongue-in-cheek point was that rats are cuter than drones.

Again: We're talking about rats that can detect land-mines and tuberculosis. That's like the most uplifting story I can imagine.

Look at this little superhero. :D

Rats deserve more love. I had a pet rat a few years ago, they're really friendly animals.

rats are clan animals. You shouldn't keep a single one. But I agree, they make awesome pets =)
{Emilia}, are you a member of apopo/directly involved in their work? It'd be cool if the site was available in Italian, too. Part of the German translations are from me :D

Those polar bear pics are cuuuute!!! *melts away like polar icecaps in global warming*

What cheered me up today is a recent invention: a milk station. It's like a gas station, only you get fresh milk. You can either bring your own bottle or buy one on the spot and the station is open 24/7, the milk is organic, no genetically altered cow food is used ad it's totally untreated (not pasteurized either). And it's transported only 20 yards: from the udder to the automat. Environmentally friendly and CO2-neutral.
Cool idea =)

and another gem from the local police report:
A Buddhist complained that someone stole part of his prayer flags from his garden. The cops watched the property and caught the culprit redhanded:

It's presumed the squirrel uses the prayer flags to build a nest. The next squirrel generation will grow up under Buddha's protection =)

LOL!! Thanks. This does cheer me up!

YAY! I just found 9 (!) 4-leaf clovers in my office's parking lot =) Lucky me!

If you need a little luck, feel free to pick one of these ^ :)

Do you know the one about the Buddhist monk that goes to a sandwich vendor and says: "Make me one with everything!"
