Checking out the Olympic Class

I wouldn't imagine that the sphere would have impulse engines, at least not large ones. That's why I imagine it operating as an orbital hospital. If the secondary hull were free to return with another sphere or other primary it could be a very interesting class.

^ Gigantic lifeboat function for warp core problems...separate from the secondary hull and move to a safe distance.

If the Galaxy-class had not had that ability, how many people would not have survived the events of "Generations"?

I already covered that. Please re-read my post.

First thing I thought of during my quick drive-by of the BBS this morning; pitched it out there. I see the posts now.

Let's flip this around:

Could the sphere section detach and land as a sort of hospital base?

Just make sure it doesn't roll. That would look mighty silly. :guffaw:

(sorry, I just had this vision of an Olympic primary hull rolling across the surface... :D )

Nice work. Always dug that design considering it was unsolicited work done by Bill George in his spare time.

I got to admit I get a chuckle out of the antiquated telescoping hydraulic pistons on the shuttle elevators. Very... quaint.

You might want to re-evaluate the warp core arrangement; think outside of the box.
Plasma doesn't like to make the type of sharp turn depicted in the pic.
K.I.S.S. and all :)

Plasma tubes take right angle turns all the time! What about the pylons of the Excelsior or the Enterprise-D, or the energy shaft layout in TMP?

Aaaand, she's finished
