Chasing Skirts

I think JJ's strategy is very shrewed..and it will work, IMO...

Most people think he is going after that male 13-49 demo, but really he isn't. He knows teenager boys will see this movie no matter what...He is aiming this movie, with its 'hunk men' and 'romantic' angles, and its Tom Cruise/Maverick-Top Gun star, Kirk, at teenage girls....and I think the he has decided, as has paramount, that the success of this movie series needs to pull in females...

I can still remember when I saw the Dreadful "NEMESIS" when it came out...it was opening day, 2pm, and there were 24 people in the theatre...24?????..and guess what? They were all men. Heck, some of them looked so much alike, I felt I was at a family reunion...but no women at all....DORKFEST with a capital "D".....and this was on opening day at 2pm....

Star Trek will not survive if it only appeals to that crowd. It has to branch out and pull in more minorities, and women....I hope Uhura/Sulu are just more than eye-candy and actually do something....

So...Not only will Captain Kirk chase skirts, so will JJ Abrams...

I think you're absolutely right. I've seen very positive reactions from all my female friends who have seen the trailer. It seems to be part of the general effort to broaden (no pun intended) the audience.

It's pretty much a scientific fact that chicks love scantily clad chicks. If Kim Cattrall had gone all Samantha Jones in The Undiscovered Country, that flick would be in the top 10 highest grossing movies of all time.

Really this is just another example of JJ being real and giving the public what it wants, not giving 35 year old virgins who have inhaled too much model glue what they want.

This guy will save Star Trek, and I will be by his side.

If JJ Abrams can get even a handful of teenage girls to see a movie with "Star Trek" in the title, without including any brooding, hunky teenage vampires in it, then he surely deserves a Nobel Prize.

I'm really looking froward to seeing a fresh lite. I gata say its not a bad way to go. If it gets anyone in the door to see a good scifi action flick which is what the trailer shows. That's cool with me. It should be made to appeal to any one and still have what we need as fans. Even if there is a leading zero:guffaw:

I agree...I think he will succeed..and I must say, I love your rotating avatar...way cool...

If he can get the female demographic into the cinemas then great! Hopefully with his background of having created Felicity, he will be able to incorporate some more feminine-friendly themes into the film.

And tits!

Um, I don't think so. In the end it's a Sci-Fi action movie, I'd guess such movies have a heavily male dominated audience, regardless of Star Trek in the title or not.

^^^What about trying to get the girlfriend's of the guys who want to see the film to come along as well.

As a Star Trek fan I can not stand by and allow people bring their dates to a Star Trek movie. What next, are they going to have sex after the movie?

People who have sex have no right being near something as precious as Star Trek! Star Trek belongs to the virgin adults!

We usually have sex during the movie.

What?

Nemesis being "dreadful" is a matter of opinion.

And I dunno... most the fans of Trek I know are actually female.

Most the time in my experience, women find Trek inellectual.
The men think it's too nerdy.

My step-daughter has plans to see the premier showing in my area..because that
"Kirk guy is a hottie!!"...

Gentlemen, The state rests...

If he can do that, it'll make more money than any TREK movie since 1986. And if it can do that, expect at least two more sequels based on nothing more than momentum!

I've had the same experience. My female friends appreciate the scientific/intellectual bent and the fact that it generally isn't a soap opera. Whereas my male friends hate Star Trek (or as my father referred to it, "That Star Trek shit").

I definately support the attempt to broaden the audience as long as the result doesn't dip into the cliche of what a 40 year old guy thinks modern women will find entertaining.

Give the women-folk more credit!
