Charging a cell phone overnight

Is it a bad idea to charge a cell phone overnight? My girlfriend says yes but I've been plugging my cell phone every night, unplugging it in the morning and have had very few issues with power consumption.

I don't think it makes a noticeable difference. I've been doing it with every phone I've had, without incident. The cell phone manual even suggests you do so.

Your battery is going to go bad anyway, whether you constantly plug it in or not. But either way, it'll take years and years - your cell phone plan will give you an upgrade LONG before it becomes an issue.

I only recharge my battery if it's near critical.
Usually I recharge it during the day if it can't wait, or simply put it to recharge overnight, and then wait again until it gets empty.

I think my recharge cycle is once every 4 days.
Enough for my needs since I barely use the mobile as it is.

Prior to this (relatively) new battery, I was keeping my mobile plugged int every night, and it's battery life went down rather fast and was dying on me during calls.
Unless you use the thing for constant calling, recharging every night is not necessary.
If you absolutely need it though, just leave it to recharge for 30 mins up to an hour during the day if the battery is low.

Guess you don't have the moto-razer.. biggest shitbox of a phone ever.

charging overnight isn't bad. However, the batteries live longer if you let them go almost empty before you recharge them. It has something to do with the infamous "memory effect".

My cell phone battery was giving me some trouble so a really drained the battery down before recharging and it seems to have really helped it hold a charge.

Old ni-cad batterys would roll over and die if you overcharged them.
The batterys and the chargers were stupid devices and would continue to pump current in as long as they were plugged in.... therefore batteries commonly died early deaths.

Most modern batteries and chargers now have circuits in them that cut off the charging current when the battery is full.

....so you really don't have to worry about it anymore.
