Characters you've changed your mind about

Lord Garth

Admiral
Admiral
The title says it all.

At first, I thought Saru was just kind of there. I thought, "He'd fit right in if this were a previous Star Trek series." But, over the course of the season, he's grown on me.

I likened Lorca to Theodore Roosevelt. My third favorite President behind Lincoln (#1) and Kennedy (#2). Now, not so much.

I'll put this one in for a friend of mine: when Stamets was introduced she said to me, "Please tell me he gets killed off", but now he's grown on her.

Yeah, Saru has grown on me. Doug Jones is a big, big part of that. He might be the most convincing actor playing an alien since Nimoy.

I hate to say it, but I'm starting to worry that they only gave Stamets a personality because they needed to show it had changed during his sporification. That's how plot-driven the show is.

Tilley was unbearable at first, but they've toned that down as part of her nerd journey of triumph. She's much better now.

I aree on Sara. His early whining what Burnham took what should have been his blah blah blah was annoying. He has grown a lot and I think in the next few episodes he's going to have to make some tough decisions

I liked Saru from the beginning but his conflicts with Burnham brought him down for me. But aside from that I like where he is now.

Stamets is probably the one who grew on me the most. I didn't care for his snarky attitude at first but I like him now. His post spore drive personality reminds me of Adam Savage a bit.

Stamets, Tilly, Culber have grown on me. I liked Lorca and Saru right from the beginning.

Um, er...Tilly has grown on me. In all fairness, they've toned her down a bit.

I can't admit this to my daughter. She's super Team Tilly. We watch Disc together on Sunday nights from separate states.

Yeah actually Saru for me too. I felt he was just a mess of a character. Could not really get any sense of what he was. That's completely changed though because of Doug Jones' performance. He just IS that character now. And seeing a Mirror U version of him kind of solidified that for me.

Oh & I despise Lorca now, where before I just thought he was Section 31.

At first I thought Lorca was kinda interesting but not likable, then after a few episodes of development he started to get more interesting and was my favorite character. But after his big reveal He's gone way down in my estimation. All of his development would just seem to be lies. Unless they pull something interesting I don't see any redemption for him.

Stamets for sure. Struck me as a cranky, irate, unlikable arrogant nerd in the first two episodes he was in.

He's a far better character (and Rapp is a very good actor) than that.

That's awesome, BTW.

I wonder how I'll feel about Saru when they give him more to do again. He seems best in small doses, and I'm still not sold on his gimmick. But Doug Jones is great, so I hope they find the right balance.

Saru has steadily spiraled down for me. Stamets and Tilly have progressed nicely. Always liked Lorca, disliked Burnham from the get-go.

Burnham ends up being the big disappointment for me. Martin-Green has the acting chops for so much more, yet is mired in melodrama.

I thought Saru had potential, but he just kinda fizzled out after the blue forest episode. He's there but that's all.

Difficult to say really, we're only 12 episodes into the first season, aside from the two main characters I don't really know enough about any of the others yet to have formed a real definitive opinion, let alone form one then re-assess it a few weeks later.

As for Lorca and Burnham, I liked Lorca when he first appeared and he has gotten better week after week, thus far I've found Burnham pretty uninteresting, but we'll see where her story goes.

Stamets.

I hated him in episode 3 but now I think his attitude is one of his best qualities.

I still find Suru a bit more on the lecturer side though.

I can't think of a one. I've enjoyed the journey of each character.

Same here. I don't overreact to every scene but take it all in, assuming every interaction is for a greater purpose and wait to see where the pieces fall. Having said that, I'm still not into the Burnham "personal logs" to start most of the episodes. I'd rather her actions and interactions tell me how she's feeling, instead of the poetic monologues. Patrick Stewart's Picard could pull it off masterfully, but I just don't care about Burham's personal speeches.
