Character Options' 'Classic Who Figures' wave 1.

Sorry if its been discussed, as i have been away for a bit i mustve missed it.

Probably has been going for some time now but hey, i wanna join in... :p

I knew that Character Options were developing them and i'd seen images posted here and knew coming out somewhen, i remember the discussions in this forum about them a few months ago.

Now, after being so busy with work etc for the past few months and over christmas:( , i'd forgotten all about them until i happened to wander into a Tesco extra store the other day i saw something in the jumble sale of a kids section...

Peter Davisons fifth and Tom Bakers Fouth figures.

Best bit...

Buy one get one half price on all Who figures.

So, to the regret of my ever lovely better half :D, i grabbed them as they were the only ones there, the rest were unwanted stuff such as Donna, Jack, Martha and a few classic Who aliens etc.

Four has a swappable head and classic screwdriver although Five only has the screwdriver but no hat, cricket ball or even... ahem... a decorative vegetable. :(

The detail is great, Bakers face is scary as ever and the hair is as fantastic as ever. Even the ?'s on Fives collars are there. The scarf and jackets are fexible and detailed and even Fives trainers are scuffed and dirty.

But who cares...

My Ninth and Tenth regen-set in leather jackets, my regular Tenth and Davros now have Five and Four to stand with.

Yeah, I'm collecting the Classic figures too, but I only got the three Doctors from Wave 1. Not interested in any of the other figures in that wave.

There's also a Dalek Collector's Set out now. And a Cybermen Wave is coming soon, each figure coming with a piece of the Cyber Controller from "Tomb of the Cybermen".

And yeah, it sucks that the regular 5th figure doesn't come with his trademark celery! You can only get the celeryed 5th Doctor in the special "Time Crash" set, which goes for a lot of money wherever you can find it online.

The only Who figures I own are:

The Doctor (4, 5, 6, 9, & 10)
Sarah-Jane & K-9
Captain Jack Harkness
Time Lord
(the old man figure from the Season Three flashback)

The alternate/exclusive "Father's Day" Ninth Doctor (green jumper)
The "Timecrash" Variant two-pack (blue Ten/5th w/celery)

...and the flight-control TARDIS. :)

I can't wait for the Wave 2 McCoy & McGann... :techman:

I wish I could justify buying action figures to myself, problem is they are just going to sit on a shelf, possibly get moved around to make it look like something new is happening every few months, but other than that, I just would not use them.

You know, I really wish they wouldn't waste time making figures for every minor alien and guest actor that comes along. The only ones the vast majority of fans probably care about are the freakin DOCTORS!

Once those are all out, then they can get to work on the companions and more iconic villains.

ive seen an action figure of the Cassandra frame, after she had been destroyed, basically an empty plastic frame, I get having one of Cassandra in her frame, but of the empty frame, no way what would a kid do with that?

incase you have not seen it

And don't forget the two-pack with Cassandra and her assistant Chip! I can't tell you how long I've waited to see HIM in action figure form.

(And btw, what exactly is "poseable" about that empty frame??)

if you were going to make a Cassandra story, there could be a use for Chip, but your point is well taken.

As for what is poseable about an empty frame, that is a very good quesiton, ive only ever seen them in Woolworths, which can sums there stores up at the moment.

im all for including action figures of the aliens, as well as Doctors, but this is taking one step too far.

Well, when i was following the development etc, i remember they were going to go with Four, Five and Six, but as i have been off the internet (To do my own thing anyway) for a few months, ive been out of touch. Ive onlt ever seen them onsale online, it was just by chance i passed them and found them that i realised how long it had actually been. Time flies when your having fun -

I cant wait for 6 and 7. And i didnt know they were doing a Timecrash set either. Im searching now, could be cool. :techman:

And speaking of Woolworths, thats where i got my Davros, he was £2, and that was a 'by-chance' find too. Hazzaa.

My shelf is getting a little crowded, much to the dismay of my other half. But i dont care. i have a lineup that looks damn cool.

Gets camcorder for my Robot Chicken-esque multi doctor stroy.

:lol::guffaw::lol:

Ive seen this bumming around stores for months, its got to the most pointless toy ever. Imagine opening it at Christmas...

"Wow, thanks dad its Doctor W... What the Fuck is this?"

EDIT: Wooah, the timecrash set is cool. Celery, brilliant. Although, why in the hell does everything British happen in America, thats such a bastard. I didnt even know about it.

Great though, the Doctor has his casual dark under-shirt open, rather than the usual suited and concerse-booted. pretty cool.

im not an action figure guy, but I could be happy with an action figure of the Doctor, or with a big name companion, but this my Doctor Who fandom does not that stretch this far.

Well were pretty much the same then. I have a few figures, some bought at Christmasses or Birthdays for me as a laugh, and i tell people im 24.

Argos put out a lot of new action figures yesterday when they launched their new catalogue. They had all sold out by the time I got there (curses!) but I did buy a Journal of Impossible Things. :)

I've been thinking of getting one of those electronic Sonic Screwdrivers. Anyone know how accurate they are compared to the actual prop? I heard they're slightly bigger, but I'm not sure by how much.

Too bad they don't sell any metal replicas. :(

The Sonic Screwdriver toy is fun! It's basically accurate, cheap, and makes all the right noises. :techman:

And I collect certain Doctor Who figures because they won't produce any good Doctor Who statues! So, figures are my "cheap statues" (same as why I collect some DC Direct figures)...

did you never see the Frodo-wearing-the-One Ring figure from the LOTR Heroclix? it's a base. that's it. just a base.

The pointless action figure award, for me anyway, is the faceless gran. I always see that one in stock... wonder why ;)

I've got the sonic and laser screwdrivers, the sonic seems a bit bigger than it's supposed to but it amuses me. The sonic pen was on my list but Forbidden Planet mucked up the order and I haven't got round to doing it again - besides the River Song one comes first.

No idea why I own them - but it has come in handy. A mate asked for a screwdriver, I reached in my pocket and passed him the sonic one. He only noticed when he tried to use it.

I have never seen that one before, that said I still say this empty frame is more pointless.

empty frame or faceless gran, which is the most pointless action figure, theres only one way to find out.

FIGHT!!!
