Character Moment

Thanks to a TikTok this idea popped into my head and applies to all series.

Think of a moment, scene, or line of dialogue that perfectly encapsulates a character to you.

I'll start with Jadzia Dax. In 'One Little Ship', once the runabout has been shrunk and they're looking for a way attract someone's attention on the Defiant, O'Brien suggests taking the runabout inside the ship and Dax immediately jumps on the idea with, "I love it. Let's go."

Jadzia was just so full of life, having over 300 years experience and done so much then here was something she'd probably never even dreamed of and she's all gung ho for the adventure of it all.

So, for everyone else out there, what moment sums up a character for you?

Dr Pulaski - when asked by Captain Picard how Worf is doing, she protects Worf's diagnosis of a kiddie ailment (Klingon space mumps, I'd guess) and he thanks her by feeding her some poison...

...well, yeah, beyond my silly one-liner description there is some better-defining context:

Her knowledge and intrepidity to dive into something new (even impetuously in some episodes) to see how things tick is kind of a fascinating trait. Like Scotty and Geordi regarding technology, just without the booze (at least for Scotty, in case enough stereotypes weren't already used in TOS to hammer the point that Scotty is Scottish and drinks booze of Scottish origin. Then again, I'm part Scottish and it only took me half a century to finally understand the allure, but I digress.) Dr Crusher would likely not be as eager to be her own walking petri dish -- not not everyone should be the same set of traits, either - that's boring.

The ailment in question:

Not bad for season 2 where, despite some rough edges lingering, the intent behind the roughiness is so much more impressive that it's more than made up for.

In "DUET", when Kira let's Marritza go and she tells him, "What you're asking for is another murder. Enough good people have already died. I won't help kill another."

It not only highlights how she inherently does not like to kill and feels guilt over some of the deaths she caused in the resistance, but also how she is growing to a point where she can move past hatred of the Cardassians and see that there are good Cardassians out there.

DS9 was a show that truly gave a lot of growth to all their characters, but Kira is arguably the one who grew the most from pilot to finale. (I say arguably because Nog had a stellar growth arc in the same amount of seasons, and appearing in less episodes. An illiterate, petty thief that ends up a Starfleet lieutenant? It's hard to compete with that.)
