Character Database?

Is there a database of fanfic characters somewhere in cyberspace ? I was going to makeup some characters and I'd like to research.

I kind of assume that everybody just makes up their own characters to fit the needs of their stories, if they're not just using established canon/canon-ish characters.

But I do know there's a Memory Gamma out there for fanfic (following Memory Alpha for canon and Memory Beta for licensed lit). I don't know how complete or up-to-date it is though.
