Channel 4 has bought the rights to Arthurian romance Camelot starring Joseph Fiennes and former Bond girl Eva Green.

The 10-part series, based on Sir Thomas Malory's 15th-century novel chronicling the history of the Arthurian legend, Le Morte d'Arthur, is in production in Ireland. Camelot, which is scheduled to air next year, features Jamie Campbell Bower as Arthur, Fiennes as Merlin and Tamsin Egerton as Guinevere. Green is to play Morgana.

The series has been executive produced by Douglas Rae of Ecosse Films – maker of shows such as BBC1's Mistresses – and Graham King of GK Films. It is a co-production between Irish company Octagon and Canada's Take 5.

In the US the show will air on cable channel Starz and sales have also been made in the Netherlands, Germany, Israel, Russia and Asia.

I thought Channel 4 cut down their budget for imports but they seem to have picked up a few shows lately. The Event and Camelot being the main ones.
