Changes In The Timeline - Abrams' Legacy

So, if the past is altered from May 2009 forward (and back, I suppose), then this website in this form will cease to exist as well. All of my collectibles will either disappear or turn into something else entirely. What will the website become?? Where else would I go? Why would I go there? Who would I become? Will my wife and children pop out of existance unbenownst to me? Is there some way I could peek in on that type of future without disrupting it? You know, the holidays are coming up. What do you say we give the ol' temporal prime directive a rest, eh?

I don't know! For all we know we could have been fans of a show called 'Star Trek' instead of our beloved 'Star Adventures'. In an altered timeline Captain Kurt could be called something weird like 'Captain Kirk'. Also think about the first Space Shuttle Orbiter? After fans petitioned for it to be named after the famous 'Star Adventures' ship, the USS Clegnut, it could have been named something weird and absurd like the USS Enterprise.

We must stop Abrams before he interferes with our history!

I'm scared.

Maybe we'll all be fans of Galaxy Quest. Then we'll all come here to QuestBBS.com and insult each other. We'll all be Questors (or Questees for the geekiest fans) and Tim Allen will be the actor who embarrasses himself and us everytime he opens his mouth.

Think of it this way, if it happens and the last 40 years changes it likely that Kirk wont die on Varidian III!

Silver lining?

I suspect that story wise, the timeline will be slightly altered (romulans showing up before they should in Trek History), but the older Spock play a role in restoring the USS Enterprise's history to what it should be, to set things straight from that point on.

In this way, it is possible that the slightly altered timeline could still contain events as we know them, with the exception of a couple of lines of dialogue in Balance of Terror, and maybe The Enterprise Incident.

Visually, it is clear that the movie will be different.

I think the quote was "Not quite a Prequel, but not a reboot either."

The story involving the Romulans is not to provide the framework for the altered timeline, it is simply assumed, in the context of the movie, that everything looked the way it does in the movie.

So far, it looks like we're essentially getting a visual reboot in the context of an Origin Story.

Ha! Sounds like a nightmare alternate quantum universe! All I want to know is, does Tim Allen groom Arabian horses and is the spokesman for Priceline.com in this other parallel dimension? :guffaw: And that's Questers to you, young man! -- RR

I had no problem with Abrams rebooting Trek with time travel interference. I just think it could have been more epic and better executed with a more worthy meddler.

As we all know, come May 2009 Star Trek will be destroyed for ever. J.J. Abrams and his creative team are sending a rogue Romulan back in time to alter the past. Trek's forty year history will be eradicated starting it afresh...

The more I think about this the more angry I get. At the films first showing those Star Trek DVD's I have will vanish from my room as the timeline is altered leaving me with no memory of Trek. The novels, the video games even this website will simply never have existed. And you know what makes me more angry than Abram's drastic plan of action? Our feeble stance of INACTION.

We're whining about losing our beloved show to the abyss of oblivion, but what about the rest of the world. Does J.J. Abrams actually understand the ramifications of his bold actions? What of the consequences on society? What would the last forty years have been like if Star Trek never existed like it's going to in May, but we won't be aware of it ever existing, so we won't know any different? Hang on a sec...

Anyway.... Most importantly though, what are we going to do about it? We have 7 months, people. Let's stop this... Before... Before it's too late...

Wow .. seriously ... you need a life.

It is a MOVIE. They can do whatever in a movie. If you don't like it, do not go see it.

It is not like they are producing more trek in your precious continuity anyway.

You DO realize the OP was a JOKE? Right?

I know that humor is a difficult concept, it is not logical.

actually I like this new rendition. As we all know, there will be no more trek vs. series' in the near future. I think this breathes new life into the series, it allows a "fresh start" so they can re-invent trek with a cast of the same crew, but new and fresh adventures.

and I think they needed a less "trek" team to do the movie. it worked. they were able to make trek "cool" I remember a day when only 1 or 2 of my buddies had seen the latest trek movie and now ALL of them have. I was actually one of the last to see it.

I certainly hope so. Or else, it would be quite frightening.

I don't know why we bumped a 7 month old thread for this discussion, which could be had in any number of other threads.

Seriously.

Please do not bump 7 month old threads again.

Thanks
