Challenge for all atheists

It wasn't Constantine alone. Here are details:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_Council_of_Nicaea

The idea that humans in any church hierarchy are closer to God and know him better than other humans is thoroughly disgusting.

Meant no disrespect, but Constantine did call the Council, and he did circulate the "50 Books". My larger and unspoken point was/is that the contents of any of the versions of the Bible have been translated from Hebrew into Aramaic into Greek into Latin into Olde English into Middle English into Modern English, and, of course, other languages.

All by Humans.

As with all religions there is a time and a place to put your views forward but really, unless I enter a theological discussion or research group, I'd rather my day isn't interrupted by any unsought religious opinions.

What did you think you were getting when clicking on a thread called "Challenge to all atheists"?

A lively game of Hungry Hungry Hippos between believers and nonbelievers struggling to collect marbles that represent either the saved souls or enlightened minds of mankind?

Really, I have my own opinion which doesn't need to be identified, but I have noticed that there is a new religion around, a new group of people who impose their views on others - almost any time and any place.

They are not the catholics or the muslims, or the born again Christians or even the atheists, - they've all been around since Adam was a boy (to use a popular expression) - but rather a very zealous, devout group who I think are a very vocal are not confined to a sense of time or place to try and convert others to their way of thinking. I have no wish to be converted by a group who is so forceful. No they are not the Buddhists or the Mormons or another of the more common religions. They are a new group altogether- the 'born again atheists' as opposed to the milder atheists of the past.

This, and other forums or theological discussion groups is the correct forum for you to say what you believe in. I just don't want to have anyone's religious views imposed on me when I'm going about my daily business unless it's part of a forum and I choose to do so. Then I'm happy to read all points of view. I know what you mean. Most atheists don't care what you believe as long as you're not hurting anyone but there are those I call 'evangelical atheists'. I just ignore them.

Perhaps if the OP had titled this thread "Questions for Atheists' and then gave a general impression of wanting to engage instead of confrontation perhaps we might have gotten a different sort of discussion.

I've taken the Activia yoghurt challenge. My bowl movements were akin to a religious experience.

I fully admit that I haven't read all of this thread - which is something that I usually make a point of doing out of politeness before commenting. But I've read the OP, and there is a fundamental flaw in what is being stated and asked. @5billionof5billion, I'm not going to tell you that your proof of God is not true. What I *am* going to tell you is that there is a distinct difference between subjective proof and objective proof. Objective proofs come from things like math and the scientific process, and you can demonstrate them to other people who are reasonable enough to think that there is validity to math and the scientific process, and they will come to more or less the same conclusion as you about the data. Subjective proofs can prove a thing *to you*, or *to me* - the perfect sunrise over the ocean as viewed from a mountaintop, or the first time someone sees their baby, or whatever it is, that proves *to them* that there is a God (or some other spiritual truth), but that is nearly meaningless to anyone else and serves to prove nothing for them.

Now, personally, I've had a Ouija board, and I understand their actual history as a parlor game, and I know how Milton Bradley produces them. You imply that there is a demon inside each board, but you're not going to convince me - even if I was fully convinced of the existence of your God (as it stands, I am partially convinced, but I also believe - due to subjective proofs of my own - that I know things about Him that most of His modern followers don't) - that MB has a mechanism to create demons and embed them in a mass-produced board game. ;)

If you feel like you have proof of God, and that makes you happy, I'm happy for you. But you might consider that your particular proof was a message addressed only to you, from God. Because if you're right about Him, He is powerful and multi-tasking enough to have that sort of personal relationship with each person in His Creation. And your message isn't for us - we'll have to wait for our own, if it is forthcoming.

Yeah, well, @5billionof5billion started it. :shifty:

There's no official English language version of the "Känguru-Chroniken" (engl:: The Kangaroo Chronicles) by German satirist Marc-Uwe Kling, so I tried to do an adequate translation of a text passage I found to fit in well in this thread:

"For ages fantasy has been the most popular of all genres. Fantasy authors of the second big craze, like John, Luke, Marc, and Mel Gibson, for example, have fanatic followers to this day, who memorised whole passages and meet regularly for conventions in medieval buildings to read their favorite parts to each other, and reenact absurd rituals from the books. What a buch of nerds."
