"Chain of Command": Selling the suffering?

How did the production crew manage to make Patrick Stewart as Jean-Luc Picard so sweaty? Was he spritzed with water? Perhaps it was some kind of shiny oil that would contrast well against his skin (and show up well on standard-definition televisions of the time)? Did Stewart actually work up a sweat in order to enhance his performance?

They tend to use thinned glycerin for the most part (Or at least used to?). Water on its own evaporates too quickly.

They probably have quite a few methods to choose from.

Production lights tend to be quite hot as well so adding that right before a take can be done, in addition to make up effects.

Maybe it's harder keeping sweat off the actors than it is to add it.
