It’s been rumored for years but it’s finally happening. Marvel has announced the Black Panther release date: the film will hit theaters on November 3, 2017. Chadwick Boseman has been cast as the character, and he will make his debut in costume in the third Captain America film, Captain America: Civil War.

Actually, Chadwick Boseman will be Black Panther on May 6, 2016, as he will be appearing in Captain America: Civil War before getting his own solo movie.

Someone I follow tweeted this yesterday. Finally. I still think Wesley Snipes was perfect for the role, too bad the project languished for so long he got too old to play the part. But Bozeman is a fine actor and I am looking forward to seeing what he does with the role.

Here's my comment: I'm glad to see that this movie will be coming out, and I'm also glad to see that he will be in the next Captain America movie, and I hope that it will become a success-we need more black heroes like the Black Panther in movies besides just Blade.

Classic:
Panther's Rage (published in Jungle Action) by Don McGregor. Found in extremely expensive versions here and here
The Client by Chris Priest (much better price)

That's one classic, one modern. Christopher Priest and Reginald Hudlin are the modern people to choose from. Don McGregor's story or Jack Kirby would be the best classic writers to choose from.

Christopher Priest's Marvel Knights Black Panther series is magnificent. Highly recommended.

In one of the first few issues, Priest swipes an idea from a chapter of the Richard Stark novel, The Outfit, called "The Story of a Dime" and uses it to show how T'Challa manages a hostile takeover of Stark Enterprises (Solutions? Whatever it was called at the time) by following the passage of one dime from the streets, all the way to the boardroom. Brilliant stuff.

Until that series, no writer had managed to juggle all of T'Challa's complicated facets so completely. A monarch and a superhero. Economics and politics. A tribal nation and futuristic utopia. Warrior and diplomat. Avenger and potential foreign threat.

Above all, bad-ass.

Yeah what's interesting about Black Panther to me is the fact that he is not only a powerful fighter (although "only" on the level of Wolverine or Captain America and not Thor level) but also the head of a powerful state giving his stories more interesting possibilities that just fighting supervillains all the time.

It's also nice to see an african state (even if only a fictional one) that has managed to actually use its natural ressources to become a developed state to rival western nations instead of devolving into tribal infighting that plagues so many african nations.

Plus he look's so damned cool in his all black combat dress that is also a symbol of his nations top deity.

I only know Black Panther as being being Storm's husband and appearing in some random Avengers and X-Men comics as a background character. I will have to seek out some BP stuff.

Ava DuVernay has apparently decided to pass on directing Black Panther citing "creative differences" with the execs at Marvel Studios.

Marvel studios- I'll have you know out of 20 or so Caucasian characters we have THREE black characters. That ain't bad.
