Chabon Pitches Seven of Nine Spinoff

Yeah, he was mostly joking, but I'm confident right now that Seven will be a prominent part of Picard Season 2, so I'm happy with that.

And I really hope that they keep the Voyager crew away from Seven. I love the idea that she has spent the last twenty years making new friends, and having new adventures, new experiences.

Why can't you have both old and new friends? I mean in real life if you make a new friend it's not like you go to your old friend, lets say her name is Wanda. "Wanda it's been nice hanging out with you these last 5 years but I meet this new friend Sally and I am afraid I am going to have to let you go. I am sure you will meet some new friends as well. Goodbye forever and good luck!"

It's not unusual for friendships formed by proximity to fade when circumstances change, though. It happens all the time when someone finds a new job, changes gyms, drops a hobby, etc. Maybe Seven's kept in touch with some of the VOY crew (obviously she maintained ties with Icheb to some extent) but if she's been out on the edge of lawless space doing the Ranger thing for a while, I wouldn't be surprised if she's drifted apart from most of them.

They're a lot alike. (They've each lost their parents. They were both raised to fight.)

I wouldn't call what the Borg do as fighting. It's more like ants going through the motions performing tasks without any individual motives behind it other some basic command from either the Borg Queen or some form of automated root command they follow all the time no matter the circumstances.

I've noticed that some fans have a fondness for Voyager and seem to think that Seven should be joined at the hip to them for the rest of her life ("Janeway is the leader of the Fenris Rangers! Chakotay and Torres were Maquis, they should be Fenris Rangers too!) but that is just so contrary to how life actually works.

Seven of Nine is forty-eight years old. I want her to have lived a rich and fulfilling life. Voyager was such a claustrophobic environment, and she escaped it long ago.

She's most definitely her own person. :techman:
