Ceasar's JOKER

We are getting this channel, not sure what it is, but they are playing the old BATMAN series. This show is campy, we all know that..and really seems dated in some ways...but I just saw Ceasar Romero's Joker, and you know what? This guy has that era's Joker down perfect. He acts like the Joker from the 60s-70s Batman comic books...and does a real good job.. Two thumbs up to the late Ceasar Romero and his take on the Clown Prince of Crime..

I think the comic book version of the Joker was changed alittle after the series came out so it make sense that Romero's Joker would be close to the comic book version of the late '60s and '70s.

I never noticed the mustache. I bought into the fantasy that much. And I was near-sighted. :p

He was like 50 when he took that part, too. But so was Nicholson (a tad older actually), when he played the Joker. Also, Burgess Meredith was near 50 when he signed on the Penguin. Batman beating on guys in their fifties. How heroic!

I never noticed the mustasch until someone on this site pointed it out...for a man in his fifties, he did pretty good..

Is it ME TV? I've been seeing it on that station for a while now actually. They play all kinds of old TV shows like Gunsmoke, Untouchables, Star Trek:TOS-R, Mork and Mindy, Man from UNCLE. I think its a CBS affiliated station, since my CBS affiliate's company runs ME TV, THiS (which is like a movie channel playing old 'classics' from the 70s and 80s"stars before they were stars") and their own independant station.

Same Bat-time?

Romero felt his mustache was more important than his role as the Joker and insisted on keeping it. I both respect and ridicule that decision for differing reasons.

i think it's a different station, if RObertScorpio is from San Diego.

Nick, you're talking about the stations connected with WCIU - the U.

Those stations are reminiscent of channel 32 in the 70's / pre-Fox.

Not just those repeats, but they even have Son of Svengoolie , a comic horror film host/ local legend.

The stations under the U control:
Channel 26 - WCIU (much of the 1st run syndicated shows like Judge shows; local stuff like Svengoolie, and repeats of shows of the past 2 decades)

Channel 23 - Me TV =The repeats you're talking about. They also have special shows, like major CPS basketball games, like the one January 16.

Channel 28 (i think; i have cable) - Me Too = Other repeats

Channel ?? - THIS = some older movies

i think they also have a station that includes some Chinese shows.

The U has also been a great community partner. They've worked with the Illinois Student Assistance Commission (disclaimer: I work for that state agency) to help us promote KnowHow2GoIllinois.com -- a campaign to help students get to college. They helped produce a video that will be seen during the aforementioned game.

p.s. Channel 50, former UPN station and previously independent, is the "other" Fox station, that is now affiliated with 32. So you might see crossover commercials between the two stations.

Romero did a fantastic job. He was one of the only credible actors on the show. The mustache did bug me though.

When I watched the show as a child I never noticed his moustache, it was only rewatching it fairly recently I saw it there. Great Joker, far better than Nicholson in my opinion!

Can't remember if was his IMDB or wiki entry but supposedly he was asked to shave it off but refused and faced with covering up the mo or losing Romero they went with the former.

Some-one mentioned up thread about being one of the few good actors on the show. Think you'd fine that many of the villain actors would outshine West and Ward even on the best days.

I used to love the Joker episodes including the Batman movie when I was a kid. Haven't watched them in a long time but yeah Romero's Joker was excellent. Julie Newmar as Catwoman, etc. As mentioned above...the villain actors were great...

I never noticed the moustache when I watched the show as a child -- only later, after I'd read about it as an adult.

It's clear that Romero had great fun playing the Joker, and it's easy to understand why. It was a wonderful opportunity for him to play against typecasting.

Outshining Burt Ward as an actor isn't difficult. But Adam West is a fantastic actor. The problem is that he was hired to overact to a ridiculous extreme, and he did such a brilliant job of doing what he was asked to do that he convinced people he was a bad, hammy actor. But just pay closer attention. Listen to the way he modulates his voice and crafts each syllable to achieve the maximum impression of hammy melodrama. You have to be a great actor to overact that perfectly.

BTW, Burt Ward and his wife now run a dog rescue organization called "Gentle Giants" in SoCal. Larger dogs are harder to place so they help to train abandoned pooches so they will be more comfortable with their new owners.

People these days are often faced with giving up their houses and moving into apartments, many of which don't allow pets. The shelters are becoming overloaded these days...and if you can't help place a pet, please consider giving to the shelters so they aren't forced to euthanize them due to overcrowding.

Cool 4-1-1 about Mr. Ward, Kyton, thanks. I just saw the episode where Dick Grayson had to pretend to be a rough-neck..he actually did pretty good pulling it off...

The makeup guys did a pretty good job covering up. You REALLY have to look to see it. I didn't notice it either at first, then I was watching one of my tapes with my friend who said "Hey look, you can see his mustache." Even on that occasion, I couldn't see it. I noticed it later.
