CC's Classic Who Run

watched Destiny of the Daleks today.

where do i sign up for the Lalla Ward as Romana is Best Fan Club? :rommie::bolian::drool:

i enjoyed it, although I don't get the use of rock-paper-scissors to explain illogical combat...

watched Genesis of the Daleks today. it's awesome. 8/10
It is indeed. This is only one of 2 classic serials I have on DVD, and what's not to like? We see the origins of the Daleks, we're introduced to the excellent villain Davros (and the equally excellent performance by Michael Wisher), we've got Sarah Jane and Harry Sullivan too.

The other serial I have on DVD is Robots of Death, which you mentioned a few posts above. I liked the story, the robots are pretty cool and Leela is a lot of fun. Plus, I loved how the Doctor explained to Leela how the TARDIS is bigger on the inside than the outside. :bolian:

City of Death is my all-time favorite Tom Baker/4th Doctor story. For the nuWho generation, the combo of Tom Baker and Douglas Adams is comparable to the combo of Eccleston or Tennant and Steven Moffat. The dialogue is rich and witty, the plot is simple, original, and tight, and the luxury of filming on location in Paris, France only sugarcoats the crisp, exuberant chemistry of newly-in-love Lalla Ward and Tom Baker. Their hand-holding jogs through Paris have become one of the most iconic moments of the 4th Doctor's era, and Doctor Who in general. For me, City of Death is 10-for-10.

  • "My dear, I don't think he's as stupid as he seems..."

"My dear, no one could be as stupid as he seems."

...OR...

  • "Romana?"

    "Yes?"

"Do you remember the man that's been following us since the Louvre'?"

    "Yes..."

"Well, he's standing behind me poking a gun in my back..."

watched Rememberance of the Daleks today. i enjoyed it even more than i did as a kid. partly because more of it made sense! 9/10

i loved the comments about Duggan being in it for the thumping and what a delightful butler, so violent!

"You can't make an omelette without breaking some eggs."

"If you wanted to make an omelette, I'd expect to see a pile of broken crockery, a cooker in flames and an unconscious chef."

One of the most quotable Who stories ever!

"Is that your philosophy, 'if it moves, hit it'?"

I know, it should have been rock, paper, scissors, spock, lizard!

Certainly Lalla's schoolgirl outfit has become one of the most iconic costumes! (She apparently chose it because she thought real schoolgirls would be less miserable at having to wear school uniforms if they saw Romana wearing something similar. Other connotations passed her by!)

City of Death regularly tops the polls for best Doctor Who story of all time - for this and other reasons. :)

Ghostlight is one of those serials that some people hate, whilst others proclaim as a work of genius...personally I find it almost unwatchable!

watched Ghost Light today. it sucked. even the magic of McCoy/Aldred couldn't save it. 5/10

I always liked it. It's got lots of great atmosphere that was missing from most 1980s Who. I love the "cream of Scotland Yard" line. :)
