CBS to launch 6 channels in the UK?

well its all very well listings ITV short run dramas, and saying that it has as much drama as CBS in terms of individual shows, but when CBS runs its show 22+ weeks a year that is no longer the case.

CSI gives CBS 24 hours of new cop show drama per year, how many hours does Lewis generate per year?

I wasn't making the point they make as much drama, I was making the point they make popular drama, and not just reality shows like you were suggesting. OK it doesn't drag in 10+ million, but it does get 4-8m in a country 1/5 the size.

I think that the balance of reality to drama hours is more in realitys favour on ITV 1, where as on CBS is more in the favour of drama.

Perhaps, especially now after ITV have said they're going to focus more on those shows because they bring in the ratings. But that still doesn't mean CBS is a channel you want to watch... unless you're a CSI junkie...

yeah I agree, CBS does not have much more than CSI and other similar cop shows, but it does have some decent sitcoms, not many of those around these days.

Which do you think is the better channel?

I've just looked at CBS schedule and the only show I see which I would want to watch is Big Bang Theory. But I'm not going to make a value judgement on which is the better channel as I don't actually receive CBS to do an actual comparison. ITV serve their audience well with the soaps judging by their ratings. CBS theirs judging by theirs.

you are right, I did get focused on how much more I liked CBS than I do ITV, and whilst I dont get CBS itself, I get plenty of its shows and feel I can make a judgement on the channel.

^But that's the thing isn't it, it's why people think US TV is so much better than our own, because we only get the best of what they have to offer.
It's like someone in the US who loves Lewis, Taggart, Wire in the Blood, etc. saying ITV is fantastic because they only get the best of what they have to offer.
Or even us hating ITV and only showing the citing the worst of what they have to offer.

you have a point, however I can pull up the CBS Fall schedule anytime I like from many websites

*goes to do so*

I can honestly saying looking at this fall schedule, that on balance (taking all shows into account) for me its a better channel than ITV (limited to primetime of course)

I can honestly say there are as many shows on ITV as CBS that I plan on watching.Doc Martin and Big Bang Theory.

Well there's some news on the new CBS channels...
From Digital Spy

The November 16 arrival of CBS Action, CBS Reality and CBS Drama on UK digital television will mark the first time that a branded CBS channel has ventured outside the US, reports Broadcast Now.
For the launch, Chellomedia has freed up six of its existing channels on Sky, Virgin Media and Freesat via its Chello Zone international broadcasting arm.
Zone Reality and its +1 channel will change to CBS Reality and CBS Reality +1, Zone Romantica will become CBS Drama and Zone Thriller will change to CBS Action. The deal also includes Zone Horror and its +1 channel, but they will remain unchanged for the moment.
Programming on the channels will derive from the 70,000-plus hours of content in the CBS archives, including thriller Jag and remastered episodes of Star Trek coming to CBS Action, Dr. Phil and Judge Judy to show on CBS Reality and Dynasty to broadcast on CBS Drama. Chellomedia also plans to source additional third-party content to fill the channel's schedules.

No news on whether they will go pay or remain free though.

its a shame CBS cant do a deal with FiveUSA, they share the channels 50/50 CBS re brands if CBS 1.

Five provides the CBS shows it already has the rights to, whilst CBS provides some other archive one.

TOS-R!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11eleven!

Mind, it'd be about the only thing I watched.

Bet you're disappointed NCIS: LA went to Sky 1, eh?
And I think RTL are more interesting in Five building it's own name in the UK than taking 10 years of work and flushing it down the toilet and working to make CBS a name over here as well.

im devastated (seriously broke my heart when I read that news)

I take your point about RTL wanting to build the Five name.

Trust me, you're not missing much (so far anyway). Early days for NCIS:LA but it has none of the charm the original series has.

I too look forward to watching TOS-R and eariler seasons of JAG, FX only seemed to show the last 3 seasons.
