CBS renews a ton of shows: Person of Interest, CSI, NCIS, etc.

CBS is getting out in front with early renewals for fall, picking up 18 of its series for next season. Among the dramas landing renewals on Wednesday were NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, Hawaii Five-0, Criminal Minds, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, The Mentalist, Blue Bloods, The Good Wife and freshman entry Person Of Interest. Comedies getting a greenlight were Mike & Molly and 2 Broke Girls. Reality shows The Amazing Race and Undercover Boss earned pickups as well.

Previously renewed for next year were comdies How I Met Your Mother and The Big Bang Theory, as well as reality hit Survivor. 60 Minutes and 48 Hours Mystery are also back for next season.

None of these are really surprising. I'm guessing that CBS will renew more shows than any of the other networks.

Like CBS or not for all the shows that look and feel the same (The procedural type shows) but they are the most stable broadcast network of all of them.

I'm more or less glad Person of Interest is coming back. I don't care about the others. The only other thing I watch on CBS is Craig Ferguson.

In their defense, they seem to be branching out a little bit with the likes of Hawaii Five-O--that definitely doesn't look or feel like their other procedurals.

Aside from The Big Bang Theory and How I Met Your Mother, I'd be hard-pressed to distinguish between their various sitcom offerings, though.

That's because Five-0 is more or less like an 80s series where the good guys crack jokes and shoot a bunch of bad guys.

Looks like one of the other CSIs is on the chopping block, though. Glad to see the original still hanging in there.

Fine by me. As per usual, CBS has nothing that interests me in their pilot slate for next season. No reason for me to root for them to clear any timeslots.

But ABC, NBC and the CW have several intriguing pilots. I hope they wield a very bloody axe. I'd say the same about FOX, but their pilots are a bore, too, which is weird since they certainly aren't in the same secure position CBS is. They need to be swinging for the fences a bit more, like ABC and NBC.

The question though is will this be NCIS's last season as it'll equal it's parent shows number of seasons.

Glad to see Person of Interest got a renewal. It is still far too bland and procedural for my taste, but it is slowly improving and adding some interesting serialized elements. They still need to add a couple more cast members however. Reese and Finch need more people to play off of, and the two cops are generally kept off to the sidelines. Adding a couple members to Finch's team would do wonders, and it seems to be the logical next step since they're always shorthanded.

It's the #1 drama on TV. It'll run until it's unrecognizable and viewership drops in half.

Personally I much prefer shows to exit on ahigh than stick around slowly dying, till all they are remembered for is staying around too long.

And it's the number 1 Drama on US TV, each country will have it's own number 1 drama show. If I had to guess the UK's it might actually be "Doctor Who" (discounting the soaps)

Same here. It's just interesting enough to keep me watching, but it could really stand to be less formulaic. Every so often I catch a glimpse of a populist political agenda lurking underneath the CBS blandness. They should push that forward, that would be different.

Semantics... everybody knew what I meant.

Yes, that should have been obvious to all since this is a thread about show renewals and cancellations. NCIS's position relative to their other shows is the important factor, which you can find indexed here. That index doesn't track foreign ratings because they rarely factor into these decisions, particularly for a show that is such an obvious case for indefinite renewal.

And anyway, who's to say it doesn't do great overseas, too? CSI: Miami is supposedly the most popular show in the world, so that stuff sells.

Only surprise, and it's a pleasant surprise is TGW - No sign of either CSI Miami or NY though - I'd imagine either one or both of those going now, especially considering they've renewed TGW.

An article over at The Futon Critic mentioned that CBS is currently in negotiations to bring Two and a Half Men back for another season, but the deal hadn't been completed yet.

Ashton Kutcher just did an interview in which he said that he doesn't know if Two and a Half Men will be back, or if it is renewed if he will even be back.
