CBS Reaches Subscribers Goal Two Years Early

Perhaps this is just editor's/writer's inference more than actual reporting but:

https://trekmovie.com/2019/02/15/cb...as-all-access-hits-4-million-subscriber-goal/

What I also find interesting in the article is the idea or possibility that early seasons of shows on AA and ST might get to air on CBS network eventually. Which means that in the future, DISCO might get to be on network TV. Note that they would likely choose the more forgiving summer time slots, rather than market it as a mainstream prime-time show. Still, that might mean that one day, in the near future people might be able to check out DISCO for free!

That would be a smart way to draw in potential subscribers to watch the new seasons

What does this have to do with what anyone was saying in the thread? You're being overly defensive about the show again and fishing for a response. Stop it.

Knock it off.

Yes, it's something V'Ger frequently does in new threads praising Discovery or CBS:AA and has been asked to stop many times before. He anticipates what he thinks the "haters" will say and posts a hyperbolic version of it in advance. It's not helpful, especially in a thread that had already been running for two days and two pages without any posts resembling that. There are enough real complaints without looking for or trying to provoke ones that don't even exist yet.

And I was hoping to just let it slide with the one comment and not make a whole thing out of it, but then the peanut gallery decided to get in on the act (not including you in that, Cyrus, since yours was a genuine attempt at explanation). People shouldn't assume that they know the whole picture from one post. This is something we've talked to V'Ger about numerous times.

I wasn't looking for a response or trying to provoke anything, sir. I was simply making fun of / being ironic about the ridiculous sure-to-be rationalizing responses from the beloved YouTube detractors who have predicted the show faces certain doom and failure.

Had nothing to do with anyone here or anything anyone here has said or done, which you confirmed yourself in acknowledging there was no post saying any such thing (so I'm obviously not mocking anyone).

I wasn't aware this violated a rule or constituted inflammatory behavior. Seems awfully tame/common to be honest.

Apologies to anyone who was offended...

Likewise. I understood V'Ger's intent to be ironic, and was attempting to be equally ironic in pointing out that the complaints of Star Trek fans haven't changed with all the various relaunches throughout history. So, apologies as well.

Maybe there will be a S31 series. It may only last a season, then CBS can just move onto the next Trek project. Not all Trek shows NEED to become ongoing series like in the past. CBS can afford to take chances, see what shows pan out and continue with those while leaving behind one off curiosities.

To me, the word "roughly" translates to possibly a 40-60 split with DSC leading the way. I'm choosing to spin it positively for CBSAA. After all AA has the shows that have the most buzz among fans. Of course it's your prerogative if you want to spin the statement negatively toward CBSAA. But I saw no credible evidence in the article that suggests CBSAA has the lesser number.

Perhaps the reason the numbers weren't broken out (other than that CBS never does this), is because the article was about CBS' "streaming services" in general. Sounds like the acting CEO is trying to, among other things, assure everyone that the transition from Moonves' regime to the new regime has not hurt CBS' march into the future with the new medium.

The CEO is taking a big picture view here so no reason to break out exact numbers between services. What CBS wants to focus on is how well their streaming strategy is going overall.
You can spin it, if you like. I'm choosing not to spin it in any direction.

When I said 40-60, I was only using that as an example to demonstrate that roughly 50-50 and 50-50 aren't the same thing. I even said so at the time, which you quoted. I was also establishing a baseline for what a conservative estimate for CBSAA subscriptions looks like that is compatible with the statements. An optimistic estimate is similarly greater.

Knock it off.

I was just being goofy and using satire to show how silly the previous post was.
This 'peanut" wasn't attempting to get in on any "act", other than to be his usual tongue-in-cheek self.
Sorry if that has become a non sequitur thing around here.
Sheesh.

I think the Picard Series will drive subscription numbers up even further. Which, strategically, is probably why CBSAA wanted to make it.

I think the Picard show will show the highest that subscriptions tie to Trek can go relying solely on what came before.

Will they still be celebrating and patting themselves on the back when Discovery finishes it 2nd Season run and ...... 1.5 million subscribers cancel their service ... ? (I know I'll be doing it...) ;) :D

I'll be staying around for future Short Treks, S2 rewatches and, most importantly, the new Twilight Zone, which I'm really excited about.

The other content doesn't interest me yet.

Would be cool if certain episodes would be shot in B&W. Did the other spin-offs do something like that? Being an anthology show, you think someone would wanna go wild with trying different asthetics that compliment whatever story is being told.

When the BBC animated the long-lost Doctor Who serial Power of the Daleks, they released it in both color and black-and-white.

Except you saw that I had asked someone else to stop, and you decided, after that, to do the thing I had asked to stop again. That's not innocently playing along with a joke, that's making my job harder. I didn't think this was a big deal when it started. We got a notification, and I just gave a mod admonishment with no punitive action. That should have been the end of it. If anyone had any issues, then send me a PM and I'll talk with you about it.

Now enough of this.
