I'm still not sure how to use those myself. I can click on you (or others) and I think post something in your public profile, but that doesn't seems like a "private" message to me. I've seen PM buttons on other boards, but if there is one here, I don't see it. It's probably right under my nose.

Yeah, that one isn't intuitively obvious. Click on the person's avatar, then in the pop-up box click on "Start a Conversation". The other way is to click on the envelope icon next to your name in the upper-right (just below the Facebook/Twitter icons), and then type in the names in the Participants block (this allows you to have a three-way _conversation_ on-line). [had to edit that, knowing people around here]
 
Ah, I finally see it. Before I would right click on your icon to open a new page, so your profile page came up and no pop-up box could be found.

But a left click or direct click on the icon opens up a pop-up box within the same page, and "Start a Conversation" is an option there, and one doesn't have to manually type in your name, either.

Though these almost seem like prompting for a live conversation rather than private messages, I guess it's just messages waiting for your eventual response.

"Earn" an Edit Post and Delete Post button!? I've never seen that before, it's weird, and seems over-controlling.

I have enough Internet experience to tell already that anyone who doesn't agree with what everyone else agrees with is labeled a "troll", as if they had the computer lingo down so well (news-flash: they don't). Oh, how novel, innovative, and original on the Web! That's not the sort of thing people _used_ to watch _Star Trek_ for.

I'm not hanging anything here. It's not like my bothering to so much as pull this up onto my browser enhances my enjoyment of _Star Trek_ anyway (ya know _Star Trek_ has been around for longer than 50 years). And I think I _may_ look for a _Star Trek_ forum where there are adults that more properly convey the spirit of fellowship like real _Trek_ instead of like yet another oh so exclusive n00bie (self-centered) central treehouse. But nevermind what I think. Let's see what the daughter of an Ambassador thinks:

By the way: Romulan Ale is for adults, and I really shouldn't associate very much, if at all, with a bunch like half my age or less. And the more star-systems you tighten your grip upon, the more that slip through the fingers of your iron (ham)fists. Err, wait.... Jus' sayin'! :-B

So, you talk about being an adult but every single post is sniping in an extremely juvenile fashion and giggling like a schoolgirl after the fact. I’m not saying that that doesn’t happen here. I probably can be criticized for my initial response to you. And it’s probably fair.

I, for one, have no problem with dissenting opinions. There are tons of them out there. But you have to be able to take the criticism that’s levied at you on your opinion. That’s what happens when you go on the internet. You have to be okay with it. We can have an actual conversation about Axanar and not have to go off into a hizzy when people don’t accept your opinion.

I’ve said it 100 times before in this thread: To me, Prelude is a decent fan film. Visually, it’s stunning. The method the story is told is great, but I myself don’t see a lot of substance to the story. It’s War Trek. Which is fine. But it’s nothing new or innovative. I can levy the same criticism to a point to Discovery. But what Discovery has that Axanar doesn’t is compelling characters. Discovery is about people. Axanar is about Garth. And Alec Peters’ Garth is an idealized version of a perfect captain with a perfect ship and he saves the day because, well, he’s awesome. That’s not good character to me. It’s boring. In Discovery, the characters are flawed, they’re interesting, they’re not the perfect precept of a Starfleet Officer. And that I find fascinating.

If you’ve not read the script for the Axanar feature, I suggest you do so. It, to me, is a prime example of Gary Stu-ism to its fault. You can disagree with me. That’s okay. It’s just my opinion.

Well that clears things up! I was concerned that my cognitive abilities had finally gone into the shitter entirely. Glad to know I'm not the only one seeing English words, yet my brain hears "Blah, blah, blah. Tee hee hee, blah blah". :)

Anyway, about this Alec fella. No, wait, about this Jonathan Lane fella (I'll get to Alec!):

Back in April of 2016, while the CBS/Paramount v. Axanar lawsuit was still going strong, MARK LARGENT and I decided to create a parody of the whole mess with a short animated spoof called PRELUDE TO AX’D-WE-ARE. We wrote the script together in about five days, and I provided the voices for half of the characters. Mark did the lion’s share of the work, animating the entire seven-minutes in just 31 days!

When I first heard about the Berlin Sci-Fi Filmfest back in June, I posted about it because, for the first time that I was aware of, an international film festival was featuring a category specifically for FAN FILMS! I suggested to Mark Largent that he might want to enter Prelude to Ax’d-We-Are. After all, it was just 15 bucks. Other Trek fan films were also entered—including the excellent Chance Encounter, Starship Republic – “Serpent of Yesterday”, and Survivors—and we figured we might have a shot…maybe.

And then we saw that Prelude to Axanar had been entered. Oh well, we thought, there goes our chance to win. (Prelude is pretty much a juggernaut.) But at least audiences would be able to watch both the parody and the original it was based on.

For those who don't get why newbies don't get to edit their messages, it's likely to prevent spammers from posting something which is fine and then going back in and adding links and stuff retroactively.

I always thought you should have to earn the right to share a link or embed media. That'd make it a lot more work for spammers to try to drop in ads.
