I can summarise what I have learned from having read all 1500 pages of this thread in just three short words:

'Alec Peters sucks'

I have also learned that...

Are the sets going to GA? Is LFIM and Supergirl and Diana all moving as well? None of this makes a bit of sense. Did he launch the IndieGogo just to fund the move?

Who sets up these categories anyway? Is there a central source? Is it at the discretion of each hosted competition? If a known associate of a competing film is allowed to provide winner plagues will they have a biased advantage?
I was shocked that our team won one at Dragon Con, audio drama. We were just a new group with just our 2nd episode, (zero funding). I haven't a clue who was funded at the time or not but I see a lot of audio groups now that are doing some type of social funding. None of the entry rules even had anything written about funding or if you're a professional group or not.
On the fan film side, Hey if you take 2nd place to another self funded group, it's like lets have a beer and talk about our win next year but if you're outspent 650 to 1, you're never going to be in it. Down the road perhaps some of your talent moves on to more funded groups, maybe someone is less interested to join up with your group. Really this effects all the fan film productions.
Ultimately taking home an honor every now and then means you're doing something right and it earns a little attention to be able to place it on your web pages.
I'm sure the conventions simply have never considered it. It's probably in their interests to attract the bigger names to draw more people in the door. Just a thought, even Boxing has weight divisions.

Our Excelsior group has been cranking out multiple episodes yearly for nine years (wow) and we only used funding for our 50th anniversary episode which brought in a number of stars. We raised the money and used it to produce an episode that we are all proud of. Whether this will be an episode that scores some awards where the rest haven't is really kind of beside the point. I think all of us on the production team take pride in making good on our promise to put out a product that would be a fitting celebration of TOS's big anniversary. An award would be nice, but that's really not why we did it and even if the guidelines didn't exist I seriously doubt any of us wish to go where we've gone before anyway and it will be a one-off. I guess my point is, the satisfaction we got came not from our association with some really good actors (who are very nice people) but setting an ambitious goal and achieving it instead of some sort of ego stroke. I suspect LFIM wouldn't understand that.

Well, I'm an odd ball writer that dislikes to hold to standard conformity. Excelsior does some good stuff, personally I'd pick up the pacing a tad for an audio but you guys need to score one as well, even if it's not expected, it's a nice achievement and give us something to chat about over a nice cold one.

We're always looking for suggestions on how to improve and our door is always open. Drop us a line any time. And if you're ever get to Boise, I'm buying!

Elena was looking at a little ranch up in Caldwell for quite a while, I'm like, if that's it, fly up and buy it.

Hence the perception of a fan film arms race.
