CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar

Alec Peters has now admitted on another facebook group that he doesn't even need the studio anymore to make Axanar since Axanar is going to be in the format of prelude. So this whole IGG campaign for the studio isn't needed for Axanar itself.

Not really a surprise sadly. I think anyone properly following events knows the truth is that Alec foolishly over-committed to a 3 year lease on an expensive property he can't afford. This campaign is about bailing him out first and foremost.

At least some lessons have been learned. There seems to be an acceptance now that it'll never be able to bring in the professional productions Alec dreamed of and they're now basically targeting students and fan film makers. My only thought though is that for that audience, the same kind of facility could surely be maintained far cheaper elsewhere with only a minimal increase to the commute. My understanding was that part of the reason the rent wasn so high was to locate within the specific zone to catch big name talent.

Another $200 dollar production?

Yes they really wanted the studio in the 30 miles zone thinking that would bring in lots of productions who wanted to use the facility but hasn't happened and won't happen.

No matter what he says it really appears this thing is falling apart rapidly

Still no donations above $200 (beyond the Clapper perk). This campaign is starting to lose stream... Alec, time to call the movers since you now got at least 12 grand (after Indie fees) to help you move out to some dirt cheap place.

My question is, why does this guy limit his predation to the fanboy set? Lack of imagination? Surely there would be more profit to be made by choosing a larger group of people to prey on? Maybe he'll have a future career working for J.G. Wentworth or MoneyMutual or some other company that has made taking advantage of people who don't know any better REALLY profitable.

I guess I get why some of you are so upset by what he's doing now (protecting your own), but wishing him to fail in his current...venture...ain't gonna guarantee that it happens, no matter how large this thread gets. Now that the lawsuit is over, better to ignore him than to waste any more time and energy hating him. Like when I see one of those inane "Its my money, I want it now" ads on TV and either mute the TV or turn the channel briefly.

BTW, Is this Indie campaign basically a admission that he spent all the donors money already? If he still had a good portion of the 1.4 million he should not be worried about having to move or getting evicted. This whole thing really lends to the stupidity of some of the Axanar donors who are also contributing to this campaign. Fool me once, fool me twice...

Donors wake the fuck up! Life is not all Unicorns and Butterflies, there are people that will take advantage of you!

They need to do a 15 minute vulcan greenscreen scene. That costs at least 15,000

Yet it features Axanar all over it.

I think because part of what he wants is to be a bigshot in Trek.

Wishing he would fail? For me, along the way it has been just wishing he would 'get religion' and be the pure nonprofit saint he claims to be.

But I guess he's made too much history now, and he is facing finances that may put an end to this venture. So yeah, the time to pick apart the latest attempts to mislead donors may be winding down. He may be just flat out of business before too much longer.

He admitted the 1.4 million is gone. This is just to pay the studio rent till the end of his lease. Then more crownfunding for the actual 30 minutes of axanar

Given Alec Peters is STILL able to raise $12,000+ after EVERYTHING that's happened; I think the only lesson he learned is:

'Fans are gullible to the point that if you do a slick video; and promose more, they'll give you money and not even bother looking into you background before doing so.'

I believe it came out during pre-trial discovery that effectively all of the crowdfunded money was gone (hence Peters claiming to have given the studio a loan from his personal finances).

Yea, in early 2016 he was saying they were ready to shoot on their first segment but for the lawsuit, which implied they had the built-up funds to go ahead, and the script, the facility ready, and the cast lined up.

In fact it came out later that none of that was true in early 2016. They went so far as to say they couldn't be prosecuted because they didn't even have a script. Alec claimed he was putting in money starting in the early part of 2016, after they had put what they had left into the studio instead of filming (presumably so there wouldn't be anything for a lawsuit to recover).

Seems all along the plan was to incrementally say Axanar comes after the next, the next, the next bit of work the studio needs. And they are *still* doing it.
