The Kickstarter for you to get to pay Axanar studio's rent+utilities hasn't launched yet but here's its pitch video. Richard Hatch makes an appearance, as well as several filmmakers who can't wait to get that free (?) studio space. Comments are open.

In fact, let's just get the popcorn and wait for the results of this latest PR.
The truth about Axanar Productions is out there and the $1.4 Million Dollar Affair hasn't been disclosed satisfyingly. So let's sit back and let's find out, if INDUSTRY Studios will be a landslide success or if new obstacles will show their ugly faces.
If there are enough donors who believe in supporting that non-profit endeavour and act accordingly - well, then Alec's business model has proven right.

Let the games begin. Let's find out, if he still can get enough sheep to support his life style. I'm far from angry. In fact, I'm rather amused and obviously this entertainment doesn't discontinue in the near future.

Killing the freedom for fan films has been done.
Now it's time for advertising the future of fan films.
All brought to you by Axanar Productions and "Industry Studios"! In living color!

Btw I'm still feeling sad for those donors who lost their money - and hopefully have lost faith in Axanar Productions and won't fall for all this, again.

Oy.

It's not a non-profit--yet. If past performance is any indicator it may never be a non-profit. Just that one part of AP's history should be enough to scare off any potential donor.

Oh sorry, urban. I forgot to insert a sarcastic emoticon behind that.
To be direct: I don't believe this "non-profit" BS for 1 millisec.

How can it be a non-profit if they're trying to rent this pig out?

Imagine it's just more hand waving and shell games with semantics. Axanar Productions is non-profit, but Industry Studios sure isn't, and that's where all your donated money is going, to fund Industry Studios. Plus that's where most of your first 1.7M went, btw...

That didn't last long; I suspect they didn't get the comments they liked.

I suspect Peters posted it not thinking anyone would find it, and once they did, POOF! (p.s. I have a copy)

(edited) An updated link to a copy on another YouTube page.

Annnnnnnnnnnnnnd the pitch video is gone.
That was pretty fast; it's up, then it's down. Two hours from posting it here to its removal. I missed it.

What was it saying that was so removal worthy? The url in Carlos' post won't play for me even with giving it full permission. [EDIT: Uh, never mind. The link was to a jpeg. <facepalm> 'Doh'.]

(and I'm doing work on my computer for the next several hours so in case anyone reloads it to YouTube I'll keep checking this page to try and catch it before it's removed again)

See, that doesn't make any sense - who doesn't want a PITCH VIDEO to be found?
I know, right?

Axanar seems to think that if you fill in all the blanks on the 501(c)3 application, approval as a nonprofit is automatic.

My understanding is that the IRS examines organizations that are trying to switch from for profit to not for profit, to determine if they are now but also *have been* operating as a nonprofit (board with escrow control over assets, profits go to the organization, etc.). Kinda a "sincerity" test.

Somehow I just anticipate issues with claiming for years to the public that you are a nonprofit, or operating as a nonprofit, while not, and then applying to the IRS.

Unless of course you create a totally new clean entity and try to sell it to the IRS hoping the IRS will not put any pieces together.

I want to see the bonus round: Axanar tells IRS that the definition of "operating as a non profit" is "you spent all your income on something or invested it in some asset for yourself each year".

Plus of course you're basically just telling the IRS, "C'mon in and peruse our books with a fine-toothed comb!"

And now a pause for reflection on the glamorous life of a CPA.

<pause>

Details emerge about the delayed Axanar studio Kickstarter. Alec Peters’ pitch video was prematurely released on YouTube, then removed. The video makes the argument for donors to donate $15,000-18,000 a month to keep the beleaguered studio afloat, ostensibly to help other fan producers. Also: We link to a copy of the four and a half-minute video.
