Probably because, oh I dunno, making money on something millions of fans want is kinda better than what - at most - about 12,000 rabid fans want. And those rabid fans are going in an utterly different direction from the current creative vision. And those rabid fans don't spend significant amounts on licensed merchandise and some of them are openly saying they will pirate the licensed content anyway. And the company has to protect its multiple million dollar licensing agreements with companies like Anovos, MAC Cosmetics, etc.
But yeah, they don't want to make $24,000. That's such a horrible business decision! {note: sarcasm}
So I'm reviewing a case for a client right now and this passage struck me as possibly relevant to Axanar. This is from a personal injury case where apparently lawyers on both sides were behaving badly, causing the appeals court to weigh in with this comment:
