How much Sushi does $1 million buy ? ;-)
Also he thinks he's the King of "trek fandom" sorry that title goes to someone else...
Wil Weaton fits that title better, but that's just my opinion ;-)
Agreed. And bearing in mind that he has taken some serious flak over his role, to still love Star Trek puts him right up there for me.

And then him bragging that he raised that much money - and people clapping for him- like its a major accomplishment. Am I missing something? Did he risk his life for the good of mankind or something? Since when is asking for donations some great achievement to be proud of?
I think you might be overestimating the altruism of folks attempting to raise money to finance their projects.
Fundraising is a laborious, time-consuming and headache inducing activity even for established studios.
The fact that Alec was able to leverage so much money off basically nothing is an achievement that the audience there would admire.

I was explaining the Axanar story to my father--a retired tile contractor--and he put things in perspective. He told me that one time a guy came into his showroom and ordered all sorts of expensive tile for his house, telling my father, "Don't worry about it, money is no object!" My father said these types of customers were always suspicious because they were operating without a budget---which meant there was a strong possibility he'd never get paid. In contrast, when a customer came in and told him they "were on a budget," he was always happy to work with them, because even if it wasn't a big order, at least he knew he'd get paid.

That's really LFIM in a nutshell: When he was operating within a budget--imposed by Gossett and his team--everything was great. People were working for below-normal rates, but at least they knew the money promised would be there. But the moment LFIM got $1 million, he decided he no longer needed a budget, and he just started making grandiose promises that cannot possibly be fulfilled.

Just about a perfect explanation of the whole thing.

Weaton Rules!

Of course, LFIM would not have actually built the Quantum Leap accelerator. He would've just produced a 15-minute "Prelude to Quantum Leap" film and then ran off into the desert with the government's money.
Pausing only to release a range of coffees that included 'Becketts Brew', 'Als Arabica' and 'Ziggys Zinger (Fairtrade)'.

"Those trolls are trying to twist Alec's honesty, decency and dignity into something bad."

I don't know who is responsible for Tampaxanar and maybe they're keeping their identity a secret for good reason but if you're reading this I really find your humour to be on totally the right side of insanity so hats off and keep up the good work!
