CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar

I like ST:ID better than most of the TOS era films (except STII:TWoK) - and over ALL of he TNG era films. YMMV.

Indeed, I actually often think that traditionally disliked film TMP and TFF were probably the most "Star Treky" of the TOS movies in concept, though I'll admit that production issues did hurt them in execution. And Generations and First Contact were, while very different in style, mostly good as Star Trek films IMO (reasonable concept and execution). The "Genesis Trilogy" were interesting enough films, but in some ways not as pure "Star Trek" (on the other hand, INS & NEM were genuinely fairly poor).

Man that man is a fucking leech on humanity - before anyone says it YES! I take exception to that video, It should never have been posted on an official Star Trek Page.

Somewhere, somehow, there is something that we don't see coming.

The only truly horrifying thing I could see coming from this is if somehow Burnett and Peters are producers on the new show. That could potentially end my fandom right there. If C/P allows Axanar to be made, I can always ignore it. If somehow, AP becomes the fan film czar, I can just not watch fan films.

Alec Peters involved in an official capacity on a Star Trek production would be enough to destroy Star Trek for me.

(Of course, I realize none of these points are particularly likely.)

Either it would destroy it for everybody, with a poisonous mentality injecting itself into Trek content, or the industry would call bs on him and freeze him out as being only a token placement to appease JJ.

I would hate to see a narcissistic sociopathic point of view get any voice in Trek storylines. Except Q :guffaw:

I can't see that happening.

It escapes me how LFIM managed to get in on that video thing, unless CBS/P are just continuing to let him go off so he can hang himself. And I think he will hang himself, if given enough rope.

I don't see any way that there will be a settlement, because W&S will ask for much more than L&L are willing to concede. I just hope that settlement negotiations will come to an impasse so that discovery can begin. This guy has, in my opinion, stolen money from his backers. It needs to go through the trial process so we can see exactly how corrupt hie really is.

I won't go so far as to say that criminal charges should be brought against him, but I can't deny that I think it might be deserved.

Another gem from Mike Bawden, where he's talking about "playing in CBS's sandbox":

Worse still, when there is no one paying attention to the children playing in the sandbox, someone has to make the rules – and that usually falls to the biggest kids. Sometimes those kids can be bullies. And bullies don’t like it when the kids they pick on punch back.

:)    :guffaw: As an outsider looking in, I only see ONE bully in the sandbox, Mike. His name is Alec.

For a person who seems so reasonable when in some interviews, Mr. Bawden sure goes to extremes to lie to his audience with false stagings of context when they are being spoken to him directly. Omitting that Alec is the cause of the sandbox problem is a flat out lie to anyone reading his argument.

CBS doesn't have to say anything. They can just let AP rant and posture to his heart's desire. And when they finally speak AP will wet himself.

"But, but, but..."

You're done, pal. The game is over.

I believe delays, for a while, worked in the defense's favor. Now they seem to be working in the plaintiffs' favor. Yes, yes, Beyond is premiering on July 22nd, which is 7 weeks and 4 days from now, by my calendar. But in the meantime, the response to the counterclaim (or a motion to dismiss same) and the Doe day of reckoning are slated for early to mid June. If the matter is not settled by then, then I believe we are going to go a lot further. Plus I think Lin and Abrams have wrung whatever benefit they could have gotten out of the announcement. At least that's the way I am seeing it. Get past June 15 or so, and the Beyond premiere is going to matter less and less vis a vis this suit, I feel.

"Ménage a Troi and Transfigurations were really bad episodes. No way I'm going to watch the next one. I'll just skip it and wait for the VHS."
Personally I give a series 3-5 episodes if they're bad or not resonating with me I might skip the show entirely.

Of course your mileage may vary

Captain Spock: An ancestor of mine maintained that when you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth. If we did not fire those torpedoes, another ship did.

I think Mike Bawden describes Alec Peters perfectly with his following comment: The world of Star Trek Fan Filmdom is a toxic community of self-proclaimed "super fans." >snip< No doubt Mike fails to see the irony of his projecting the blame b.s. It never ceases to amaze me how quickly Alec & Co try throwing people under the bus.

I don't like JJ ABRAMS and CBS of what they did to all of Star Trek fans and other around the world, do to what paramount studio is doing to us they don't like any of us around no more. But I got this under my arm of a good idea about this. I don't know how many of you are going to the court and help AXANAR with the 100% support him but here is the
Is the twist go in your unform and show your support for this part of Star Trek and not JJ ABRAMS film.
And the people at the 3 places are CBS and PARAMOUNT STUDIO and VIACOM that we all like the OLDER part of Star Trek this go's from TOS, next gen, DS-9, VOYAGER. But not his film from JJ's. I want to see him lose out in no more money and CBS not going to tell us what to do. We do this by not buying the things that they want to sell. I just have a hole lot to say about this but I want to here back from all of you about this idea from me?.

If I'm reading that right, I think most of us, while not necessarily united on the front of the Abramsverse, would prefer to see Axanar not made because of what Alec has done to fan films in general. Plus, not all of us live in California.

So you're saying Into Darkness was consistently great?

Of course not. What does that have to do with it? It got a lot of butts in the seat. That's hardly a flop. Star Trek is getting another movie. That's hardly a flop.

What does the quality of Into Darkness have to do with Star Trek Beyond being a flop or not, with getting Axanar fans on board or not? Into Darkness made money. It didn't do that by empty theaters.

You have a mouse in your pocket? What's this "us" stuff you speak of? I can speak for myself, thank you.
