CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar

Apparently there's a guy who's been leaking detailed plot descriptions of future episodes that could be sued by HBO for copyright infringement.
Why would anyone want to even do this? What sort of enjoyment do they get spoiling upcoming episodes in that way?

Yes, some of the entertainment pages can let some details slip, which is why I try not to read them! But what does this person hope to gain, other than the notoriety of being a spoilsport!

People wouldn't post spoilers on the internet if people didn't click on them.
Some people LIKE to be spoiled. They like knowing, before others, what's going to happen.

I don't mind spoilers. In fact, I kinda like reading a synopsis before I see an episode or movie. It's not like I'm reading the whole script line by line.

Most of the time I can predict what a character is going to say or do as I'm watching it anyway. I'm rarely surprised. So for me, a spoiler is no big deal. It even enhances the experience.

Suggest Alec's legal team abandon him this minute

If this isn't a dose of cold water to the faithful, they deserve to be fleeced. The court ruled that Peters and Co. could go ahead and make Axanar, but this makes it clear that Axanar is dead.
To add what I think is the proper context, it was more like the judge handed them a rope and told them if they want to hang themselves to go ahead. Just my opinion.
Anyway, I suspect that the core group of Axanar acolytes is getting smaller by the day. The vocal ones (who vocally support AP, that is) will never stop, but I just get the feeling the rest are slowly giving up the ship.

That was my thinking too, but that still removes their chief excuse for not making the movie. And now we have this. Axanar is dead, and I suspect it has been from minute one (if not before) of them receiving the suit.

Why would he do that? as long as the rent keeps being paid he might be the only winner in this whole affair.

Just a thought - he might not want to be associated with the production. So, what would be the legal position of Alec if that happened? Would this affect the court case?

Does this mean if I got my hands on the Axanar scripted and posted a detailed scene by scene description I could end up being sued or at least threatened by Alec Peters?
Technically, yes. They have yet to resolve the issue in court, so legally Peters (or someone) can claim they hold the copyright on the Axanar script. And if (when) they lose to CBS, the copyright will probably be declared a derivative of the Trek copyright, and CBS will own it. At that point, they will in all likelihood destroy every and all copies thereof.

And I can just hear the conspiracy nuts expounded upon a theory: the only reason CBS sued is because Axanar is so very good they want to get their hands on it and make it themselves. It's all about the money, don't you know.

Reading more about this studio change and sale whilst having Firefly episodes on in the background and one passage from "Shindig" about the character of Badger sums it up about Alec

River Tam: And you're, what? A petty thief with delusions standing? Sad little king of a sad little hill

Made me chuckle to be honest with regards to timing
