CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar

What cracked me up was Alec going on about "the fans." The fans are okay with all of this, the fans love me, the fans are kept informed, the fans, the fans, the fans. As though that's a perfectly legitimate excuse for Alec has done.

It's like saying I went next door stealing my neighbors mechanics tools, slept at a Holiday Inn last night and attended a convention funded with a stolen credit card, and my gold fish loves me. Because I have fans, I'm special, and screw anyone questioning me.
No the fans don't nor do all the donors support this, some feel as if it's one giant ripoff from Axanar.

The idea that you violate copyright less than someone else because they're using better known characters is sorta like saying "I steal less than that guy because he borrowed your car while I only stole your bike."

They are lifting George Washington, we are only lifting Woodrow Wilson. Need to look it up? 'nuff said.

the mandate from the 1/5000th of the Into Darkness Fans.

Because CBS / Paramount could then go after every single fan made production by sending them C&D notices - have you seriously not got the danger that Alec and his collection of morons and dipsticks have placed us all in?

"Could then?" They already could go after everyone... Remember what this whole thread is about: CBS/Paramount having the copyright? They could have gone after anyone at any point already. This case doesn't determine if they COULD go after anyone after this.

I think he meant that C/P is more likely to CHOOSE to go after them as a result of the Axanar debacle.

Yes, I think the idea is that all fan productions may now be under greater scrutiny because of the senseless belligerence of this particular one that just couldn't or wouldn't abide by plain decency and common sense like everybody else.

The discussion a page or two back about whether or not the Axabar big wigs read this thread got me thinking that it really is amazing that we haven't been overrun by Axanar fans. With so many people on the boards I find it hard to believe there aren't any around, but I guess they must figure it's pointless.
I know he's been banned repeated, but I kind of wish Peters was here, just so we could get responses to some of the points you guys have brought up. I know similar points have been brought up in interviews, but it's not quite the same as a direct response to our posts.

They're allergic to facts and logic the way the Wicked Witch is allergic to water.

I already suspect at least one recent joiner is working on the SS Axa-Flop

Plus, anyone who has studied cult behavior knows that limited exposure to contrary opinions is common, out of a fear someone will be dissuaded from their loyalty.

Which makes this tweet that much more revealing:

Anti-Axanar posts are becoming as annoying as anti-Scientology posts. Same sci-fi genre though. #IStandWithAxanar

Yes. I think everyone here does. Why do you ask?

@PhaserLightShow
Just a word of advice if any PRO Axanar fan or anyone for that matter is found interacting with us HATERS, DETRACTORS or what ever were called it's grounds for a banning so Alec told Trekzone.org so anyone YAY AXANAR IS THE GREATEST AND ALEC IS THE MESSIAH best not be here lol

I think you hit the nail on the head. :techman: Here's a list of warning signs that remind me of Alec's methodology. I'm not saying Alec's behavior and decisions fit every item on the list regarding Axanar, however there are some interesting matches.
  • Absolute authoritarianism without meaningful accountability.
  • No tolerance for questions or critical inquiry.
  • No meaningful financial disclosure regarding budget, expenses such as an independently audited financial statement.
  • Unreasonable fear about the outside world, such as impending catastrophe, evil conspiracies and persecutions.
  • There is no legitimate reason to leave, former followers are always wrong in leaving, negative or even evil.
  • Former members often relate the same stories of abuse and reflect a similar pattern of grievances.
  • There are records, books, news articles, or television programs that document the abuses of the group/leader.
  • Followers feel they can never be "good enough".
  • The group/leader is always right.
  • The group/leader is the exclusive means of knowing "truth" or receiving validation, no other process of discovery is really acceptable or credible.

Just for my own Twisted Psychological Needs, as well as stemming from my Psychology background, I would really like to know what makes a person such as this "tick". He is clearly in possession of intelligence, of a kind, and a motivating drive. I have said before that I really like what I have seen of the filming, so there is clearly some organizing and "choosing" talent, again, of a kind. But what motivates a person to so clearly violate law and project a persona that denies the violation and the infringement...$$Money$$ is the Easy Answer, but I think it goes much more deeply...

...and a courtroom ain't gonna give us insight into that...

...just thinkin'

It has been shown in others that considering one's self a visionary coupled with surrounding one's self with people caught up in that vision can be brain chemical release intoxicating.

I've said for years that a documentary about the people and the psychology of people who make these fan films would make for a fascinating project, if you could get everyone to agree to do it.

Also: if a documentary about this whole embarrassment about Axanar gets made, I sincerely hope it will be called Casting Dispersions.
